It's perfectly legal. All you really need to do is change the zip code and/or city to Tuscaloosa in the menu to get the proper dish coordinates. You can get the tripods at radio shack, camping world and some wal-mart stores carry them, but if you do not need it immediately I would suggest going on ebay. The taller tripods are very reasonable there and many will include 25' or more of extra cable and sometimes a signal locator. However, once you get used to pointing the dish you won't use the external meter very often.

If tailgating on the quad be careful of the trees. They can turn a simple procedure into a nightmare...
