This guy doesn't realize the trouble he has bought himself. In Alabama assaulting a sports official is a Class C felony. If I were the official who was attacked, he'd better get a very good lawyer because I would most certainly press charges against him.
I am a retired sports official. I know that many years ago, after doing a playoff game up on Sand Mountain, I got a call on Monday after the game from Mr. Bubba Scott, the head man at AHSAA back in those days. He wanted to know what I knew about a fight after the game involving coaches. He was extremely angry about it. Said suspensions, etc. were going to happen. That was just two opposing coaches getting into it. It can lead to the school getting whacked. Sadly, the schools are held responsible for all the crazy drunks in the stands that are on their side of the field. While in Germany in the Army, I had a coach from a team take a swing at me after a basketball game. His punishment was LIFE suspension from coaching any kind of sports team in the US Army controlled sports system or high school sports. Plus he was brought up on charges by his company commander for assault. A heavy price to pay for a hot headed swing and barely make contact with me. The real funny thing was he screamed we officials were responsible for his team losing. His team lost by something like 25-30 points. I guess I made too many jumpshots against his team that day!!
