Big A Diamond Notes : Bama Defeats Georgia in the Bottom of the Ninth, 7-6

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Crimson Tide took game two of the series with Georgia winning Saturday by a score of 7-6 in rainy conditions at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. Bama scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth on a Jeff Texada RBI single to tie the game and Matt Bentley hit a walk off single to score Emeel Salem for the winning run.



The game was delayed over four and a half hours due to the storms that passes though the Tuscaloosa area most of the day. First pitch was originally scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and the game finally got underway a little after 7:30 p.m.



Georgia (13-22, 5-9 SEC) started the scoring in the second inning when Matt Robbins doubled down the left field line and came in to score on a Ryan Peisel RBI single, giving the Dogs an early 1-0 lead.



Alabama (21-15, 6-8) tied the game in the top of the third on Alex Avila’s sacrifice fly scoring Greg Paiml, who led off the inning with a single.



The Tide took their first lead of the series in the bottom of the fourth on Kyle Moore’s RBI double down the left field line, scoring Matt Bently and Jake Smith. Moore came around to score on Emeel Salem’s RBI single giving the Tide a 4-1 advantage.



Georgia tied the game in the top of the six when Peisel hit a two out three run home off the scoreboard in left field.



Freshman Jake Smith blasted his sixth homerun, a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth to put the Tide back on top 5-4.



Peisel added his fifth RBI of the evening in the top of the eighth to tie the game on an RBI double to tie the game. The Dogs took a 6-5 lead on Joey Lewis’ RBI single.



Pinch hitter Jeff Texada singled in Greg Paiml to tie the game at six and Matt Bentley hit a walk off single to score Emeel Salem for the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.



The series will conclude tomorrow afternoon at Sewell- Thomas Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
