Regional Picks

Share

Time to post your predicted Regional winners/Super Regional matchups...

SUPER REGIONALS
Texas vs. Texas A&M
The Longhorns shouldn’t have much trouble taking care of their relatively weak Regional. The Aggies are on the road against an upstart TCU program, not to mention an extremely challenging #3 seed in Oregon State. The Aggies are the most talented squad in the Fort Worth Regional, and I think they’ll move on after a hard-fought slate.

Georgia Tech vs. Miami
Florida was one of the hottest teams in the country down the stretch, and Miami, though still a respectable team, is actually in somewhat of a rebuilding year. I’m just not completely sold on Florida’s pitching, and while the ‘Canes aren’t overly spectacular, I’ll pick them to pull off an upset in Gainesville.

Arizona State vs. Clemsabama
Nope, not picking our Regional. It’s a foolish superstition, but why take the chance?

North Carolina vs. South Carolina
The Gamecocks finished the regular season on an absolute tear, and Ray Tanner’s squad has what it takes to dispatch Conference USA champ ECU in the opening round.

Cal State Fullerton vs. Vanderbilt
I don’t like Louisville. I think they are as bad an “outlaw program” as Miami, or those Maine teams from the 80’s. I don’t think any team that competes in a joke of a conference like the Big East deserves to host a Regional. I hope Vandy wins.

Florida State vs. Arkansas
The well-balanced Seminoles should take care of a UGA team that really fell apart late in the season. I like the Hogs’ chances of upsetting the Sooners in Norman.

UC Irvine vs. Ole Miss
Strasburg can’t pitch every game, which eliminates San Diego State. The bad thing for Virginia is that they get to face Strasburg in the opener. In the end, it all works to the Anteaters’ advantage.

Rice vs. LSU
This is where the idiots on the selection committee absolutely blew it. Why are these teams matched against each other in the Super Regionals? Both teams got hosed, big time. The Houston and Baton Rouge Regionals should have been paired with something like the Louisville or Fort Worth Regionals.

Re: Regional Picks

I'll go with you picks there JoJo.

As far as the supers go, I'll go with:
UT
GT
Clemsabama
USC
CSF
FSU (UGA may pull this one off...if they get hot again (which I doubt will happen) they could win the whole thing)
OM
LSU

Somewhat SEC biased. As far as winning it all, I'd have to with TBA. Hehe had to. I'll make that prediction later on.

Re: Regional Picks

For the Super Regional winners, I'll go with...

Texas A&M
Georgia Tech
Clemrizama State
Cal State Disneyland
UNC
Free Shoes University
Anteaters
LSU

*Had Ole Miss not lost Scott Bittle for season, I probably would have picked them over Irvine.

*Rice-LSU will definitely be a series to watch. Picking LSU, but hoping for an Owls victory.

*Texas barely squeaked past the Aggies to take their regular season series 2-1 at home, needing extra-innings in the opener and winning 5-4 in the finale. A&M shut them out in Game 2.

re: Louisville. I hate them just because of their field.

A buddy of mine has played on it, and actually vouches for it, saying it's not bad to play on...but I can't get over it.

Re: Regional Picks

Admittedly this is a bit of a cop out, but, it is so hard to see very much college baseball (especially outside of SEC and ACC games) that I just don't know enough about the rest of the field to make decent guess. I will go this far, however, I think LSU wins and advances to the CWS. I believe they will be the only SEC representative. A dark horse SEC team: South Carolina.

Re: Regional Picks

Well, so much for my "upset picks." Arkansas was the only one to come through for me.

Florida appears to be in good shape to make a return to Omaha, with a very winnable Super Regional matchup against Southern Miss.

Ole Miss - UVA should be an interesting one to watch.

LSU-Rice will likely feature some of best pitching matchups of the tournament, with Anthony Ranaudo and Louis Coleman going up against Ryan Berry and Mike Ojala. Should this one go to a third game, the pitching advantage would swing in favor of Rice, as LSU's staff has a fairly substantial dropoff after their top two.

Re: Regional Picks

I've read a couple of posts that have described Louisville baseball program as somewhat as a "rouge" or "outlaw" ballclub. I've always thought that Coach McConnell could recruit and now it seems that he can coach just as well.

Just wondering as to why some people think of their program that way.

Re: Regional Picks

I still think Florida sucks and can't figure out how they are where they are.

That series sweep over us, which should have been a 2-1 Alabama win, must have really turned around their season.

In baseball, sometimes that is all it takes. Granted they play well as a team, and I for one as a coach, can respect that. We had our chance with them and blew it.

Re: Regional Picks

saw Preston Tucker's gaudy stats. He was hitting about .210 when our series started, but then turned into Babe Ruth and hasn't stopped

McDonnell is a great recruiter and a good coach. He should be at the top of the list for any job openings at major conference schools. The "outlaw" reputation is really more of a reflection of the Louisville athletic department in general. Blue chip prospect denied admission to a school in the SEC or ACC? Go to Louisville, they'll take anybody. Plus, the negative reputation of the baseball team has a lot to do with the bush league on-field behavior of that Louisville team that made it to Omaha a couple years ago.
