UA rookie named to NCBWA All-America squad

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama left fielder Taylor Dugas was named to the 2009 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Pro-Line Second-Team Freshman All-America squad, the organization announced today.

The Lafayette, La., native was named to the 2009 Collegiate Baseball Newspaper/Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America squad last week. The15th Crimson Tide player to earn freshman All America accolades, he is the 13th freshman All America selection for Tide head coach Jim Wells.

A 2009 Freshman All-SEC pick, Dugas hit .352 (83-for-236) with two home runs and 27 RBI in 56 games. He led the Crimson Tide in hits (83), multi-hit games (25) and doubles (20). He is the second consecutive rookie to lead Alabama in hits after Josh Rutledge paced the Tide with 99 hits as a true freshman in 2008.

Dugas finished fourth in the SEC in doubles (20), seventh in total hits (83) and 12th in average (.352) as a true freshman.

He was named to the 2009 Whataburger Classic All-Tournament Team after hitting .375 with one home run and one RBI. He also tallied a 24-game hitting streak from March 6-April 10, where he averaged 2.08 hits and 1.5 runs per game during the streak. It was the longest hitting streak in the SEC this season.
