Hiring a baseball operations "coach"

Share

I know that Kentucky had a baseball operations man that could attend all practices and games but could not be dressed out in uniform. Would it be possible for BAMA to do this but direct the role at a pitching coach? I think Jim is a good manager of the team but should pass the reigns to a "pitching coach". Jim does seem to know all the ins and outs of the game from years of experience but does not have the people skills to relate the info well to his pitchers. I know the rules only allow two paid assistants so this would be a work around. Comments??

I think that's what BJ is now.
Allen Rice was it a couple of years ago, and Jim Gatewood was it before he became one of the two assistants.
They call it "director of baseball operations"

wishing for Wells to leave the pitchers alone is just it, wishing

You're exactly right. Wells has been here since '95 and I'm not sure that his approach/philosophy with pitchers has changed at all in that time. To expect it to change at this point is, well, not smart.
