Wells got what he wanted. He came back and hired Gaspard so he could assure that he would take over the program when he left. Leaving this late in the game that was pretty much the only choice.

Honestly, it just depends on how it turns out. I don't know that we could do much better right now even if the season just ended today. CMG is a good coach. I think he has the ability to take the program to another level. We'll see soon enough how well he does as a HC in the SEC. I like the fact that he has head coaching experience. I know he is an excellent recruiter. That never hurts. The thing I'm really wondering right now is, who will he bring in as a pitching coach?

That is the main thing I'm looking for. Considering him and Dax were pretty much responsible for the offense the last couple of years, I'm not too worried about how that's going to turn out, but pitching is the key now.

Re: Is jim wells done?

I'm very interested in seeing what Mitch (who I have a great admiration for) does with the pitching situation as well.

I will say this. In all the time I've been around Mitch I've never known him to interact with the pitchers much, so I would assume he will bring someone in to take over in that capacity. Could be wrong, it's happened before.

It will probably never happen but there's a former Bama player just a few miles down the road at Shelton that in my opinion would do a heck of a job. Whether he would even be interested I have zero clue.

Finally, I have a great appreciation for Coach Wells on both a personal level and for what he did for the program. I didn't agree with all his moves, but baseball is a second-guesser's dream sport. He did a ton for Alabama baseball in his 15 years and I wish him well in whatever he pursues next.

Re: Is jim wells done?

Good idea Ping, but I doubt that he would be interested in coming over as an assistant. That wouldn't stop me from making the call, though. By the way, what is Jarrod Kingery up to these days?
