Sharpe won't leave Mississippi State, says Ford
Quote:
Walter Sharpe is not going to leave Mississippi State and transfer to another school.

That's what his high school coach, Parker's Maurice Ford, said on the phone Tuesday afternoon. "We're going to stay," Ford said, using the plural contraction that indicates how close he is to his former player.

Sharpe staying is news. As late as last week, it was a given in SEC basketball circles that, after a rocky freshman season on and off the court, Sharpe's stay in Starkville was history.

The word around Birmingham was that he had quit going to classes and had returned here before the end of the spring semester. So he would need to pass a full semester's worth of class work in summer school to be eligible. Of course academic miracles happen often in Stark Patch.
