Note Top class is mostly leaving the state (link)

A year ago, I wrote that if the top college basketball prospects in the state from the celebrated Class of 2004 wanted to play in the Final Four one day, they needed to leave Alabama.
Well, four of the top six are going to.

Wilcox Central's 6-foot-9 power forward Michael Williams (Texas), Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa's 6-8 forward D.J. White (Indiana), John Carroll Catholic's 6-7 swingman DeMarre Carroll (Vanderbilt) and Parker's 6-9 forward Walter Sharpe (Mississippi State) signed with out-of-state schools. The only two among the super six to remain in state are John Carroll's 6-2 guard Ronald Steele and West End's 6-5 swingman Glenn Miles. Both signed with the Alabama.

Since I wrote that column I have changed my mind. I believe an in-state school will reach the Final Four in the near future, and it's all because of the impressive showings Alabama and UAB made in the NCAA Tournament last month.

Top class is mostly leaving the state

Note

The Final Four theory is a bit off, IMO. I think players look at depth charts over everything. The NBA effect has made it what it is. Guys just look at college as a farm system for the NBA and think they only have a year or two to make something happen.

Unfortanetly(though not really), they may need four years when they see the other kids they will compete against on their own roster.
