Re: Good article on Gottfried.....

It pretty much sums up the whole "Gottfried experience"...

He brings in the talent, and hopes that is good enough. It has been that way for the last ten years...Oddly enough, a new batch of talent is coming this next year...Does he survive to reload so we can have a tourney bound 9 seed with a 9-7 SEC record team next year (in a best case scenario)?

Hehe, I like the point of how Gottfried makes coaches look like geniuses...

#1 Buzz Peterson (Tulsa...NIT...gets job at TN)
#2 Stan Heath (Kent St...NCAA...gets job at ARK)
#3 Bruce Pearl (UWM ... NCAA... gets job at TN)

Indirectly...

#4 Jeff Lebo (Sweep Alabama ... you get a few more years!!))

Re: Good article on Gottfried.....

Lebo=good coach

Taking what you have (which in his case ain't much) and making it better, or at least getting the most out of it.

Maybe that's good enough for the decision-makers in Tuscaloosa. Maybe the occasional down year (or two) is acceptable because most of the time, the Crimson Tide is competitive. Sure, $1 million a year is a lot to pay for a coach whose greatest skills are probably recruiting and clapping, but that's no reason to rock the boat. That's not enough to throw an Alabama man out on the street and start a coaching search that would distract from what Nick Saban is doing with the football team.

Is it?
Well that pretty much sums it up.

Re: Good article on Gottfried.....

Wow, I seem to recall another coach at Alabama (different sport ... I think it was football) who was good at "recruiting and clapping." He, too, was a Bama grad and played in his respective sport. That didn't turn out too well, either.
