Richard Hendrix, PF, Alabama: The only Southeast Conference player to average a double-double last season. One general manager says Hendrix will be an eighth or ninth man on an NBA club next season.

I don't think it is a stretch at all that he could be an 8th or 9th man this season. Hendrix is really good so why can he not be an 8th or 9th man on an NBA team when Leon Powe and Glen Davis were both big contributers for the Celtics who just won the championship. He might be an inch short or not as athletic as some would like, but he is a beast and I think more athletic than many give him credit for. Certain teams love players like Hendrix who know how to play the game and don't rely solely on their athleticism. Look at Paul Millsap for the Jazz, Turiaf for the Lakers, and Malik Rose back in the day. Heck, Reggie Evans has been a solid NBA player for years and he certainly does not have the skill set Hendrix has. These guys were not any better than Hendrix, so I can easily see him fitting in with a team and contributing off the bench next season. People said David West was too short and not athletic enough either. He is now an All-Star. I don't blame Hendrix for leaving because he has graduated, his biggest knock is that he is too short and he is not going to grow, and he does not want to risk an injury when he does not have much to gain, other than playing on a solid Bama team. Remember Chuck Davis and Ronald??? Ronald could have possibly been a first round pick after his sophomore season.
NBADRAFT.NET They have him at #50 going to Seattle. Seattle has a lot of young frontcourt players unfortunately, so not the best situation to be heading into.
DraftExpress.com They have him at #35 going to the CLIPPERS! Of course they do need some help up front so he would have a good shot at getting a contract.
These are pretty fluid situations however and the sites will be updating thier projections over the next few days as they try to keep up with the rumours floating around. Regardless I haven't really seen anyone thinking Hendrix will be going in the first round.
I am pretty sure nbadraft.net had Winston going in the first round the night before the draft. I have found that they project the lottery pretty well, but after that they are all over the place.
Richard Hendrix is basically Erwin Dudley. Physical post players with lack of a mid-range jump shot. In their junior years Dudley had 15.2 ppg and 8.9 rpg and Hendrix had 17.8 and 10.1. Granted Dudley did play with Williams and Hendrix had to play with a PG by committee, but when Hendrix did have Steele as a Sophmore Hendrix averaged 14.6 ppg and 8.7 rpg, which in comparison to Dudley's sophmore year numbers 14.4 ppg and 10.0 rpg. Finally, as Freshmen Dudley averaged 10.3 ppg and 8.1 rpg, Hendrix averaged 9.4 ppg and 8.0 rpg. The numbers pretty much speak for themselves.
Oh and Dudley shot a better Free Throw percentage his junior year nailing 71.7% with Hendrix shooting a staggering 53.7%.

You make some good and valid points and I agree with several of them but , I'm just one of those who feel that RH lacks the hops to do much on the NBA level . While I could see him scraping off a few minutes from the end of the bench , I think it's more likely that he could play quite well over in Greece , Italy , Russia , etc. . Anyhow that's where I feel his "home" will be , sooner rather than later , in pro ball . JOMO

Chad Forde on espn.com has him going at 38 to the Charlotte Bobcats. If he goes there he may not play because Larry Brown doesn't beleive in playing rookies. DJ White and Walter Sharpe are also projected to be taken in the 2nd rounds.
I would like the Lakers to get him for some "beef" on the inside, but I don't think he will last that long unless the Laker's trade-up. There are some options for trading with LA.

DJ White could have a decent career if he is able to stay healthy. White can take his man away from the basket with a nice mid-range jumper and isn't to bad of a ball-handler either. I think Sharpe will heading to the NBDL. Too many off-court problems for a GM to take a risk on him. Sharpe is a little bit above average and would be better suited developing his skills and character with a DL team.
Walter Sharpe just got picked by the Pistons. I cannot believe that he went over hendrix. He played in 12 games for UAB!!! I knew Hendrix would likely be second round, but no one can tell me Sharpe will be better. I don't care about potential. I cannot believe Dumars made the pick. He usually takes proven juniors or seniors. Oh well.
