Thought we did pretty well despite shooting 37% from the field. Good defense this afternoon.

Hillman was easily the most dynamic player on the court today(for either side). He still needs to work on his shot selection and he occasionally tries to do too much by himself, but his upside is tremendous. I'm looking for good things from him as the season wears on.

Agreed. He was terrific and his much improved play flies in the face on of one of the biggest criticisms of Coach Mark: his players don't improve.

A lot of work ahead for the entire team but a really good victory for the team.

Big A Re: Post Game Bama - LSU thread

Just got back from the game. Sort of ragged play at times, but our team played hard, particularly Hillman and Gee, and that made the difference in the game. Good atmosphere for the game which was good for the football recruits that stayed for the game.

Glad to get the conference season off on the right foot! Let's win the home games and steal a few on the road, then get a decent seed for the Big Dance!

Re: Post Game Bama - LSU thread

Great win to start conference play, but there were things I had issues with.

1. Why take out Ron Steele with 5 minutes to go and LSU is making a push to take the lead or tie it up. He had a substantial rest at the 9 minute mark.

2. Alabama needs to get the ball on the post much faster. Many times, Bama players had great position on the block and if a good bounce pass is delivered it would be drop step, dunk.

Still, great win.

ThumbsUp Re: Post Game Bama - LSU thread

Always good to get a conference win to start the season. A couple of thoughts on the game:

- Hillman plays hard and brings good energy. However, I have to wonder about his shot selection. In the final 7 minutes he consistently forced shots, most of them off balance fadeaway jumpers which missed. There was one play with a four pt lead, RS brought the ball up passed to Hillman and cut to the basket, Hillman took one dribble and jacked up a long distance 3 pointer. We had the lead and the ball. Why not run some clock, you can always get one of those shots.

- Suprised at how effective the three big rotation was with Knox, Coleman and Greene. They did a pretty good job making themselves available, and rebounding against LSUs long athletic front line. They can be much better, but they are definitely improving.

- Gee played well. He showed lots of hustle, and played within himself not really forcing anything. You can tell he is a SR, he isn't in a hurry with the ball since he is comfortable on the court. His effort on the board is impressive.

- Overall the defense was active, and the pressure was good to see. We have good athletes and have been wondering how come we don't take advantage of that. There were good movement of the feet and active hands which got several TOs and even more tips and harassments. It made it really hard for LSU to run thier offense consistently.

It was a good start to conference play, let's see if it serves as a harbinger of things to come.

Talking Re: Post Game Bama - LSU thread

Good, hard, concerted effort will overcome a lot of shortcomings of which this team has many. I hope we look back at the end of the season and remember this as the start of when the team started playing hard consistently for the rest of the season.
By the way, it was interesting hearing the fans chanting for Trent Richardson at the game. He even stood up and acknowledged the fans. Pretty cool to see.

Re: Post Game Bama - LSU thread

One other thing, I can't believe the MDB played "Don't stop believing" during the game! I started having flashbacks to high school. I still remember the concert on Halloween night at Mobile Municipal Auditorium, had Loverboy as the opening act. I thought Steve Perry was the greatest singer. I was young then though so can't be held accountable for my taste!

Also wanted to point out that Ron Steele is still a good player, but you can see he is not the same as before the injuries. He just doesn't seem to have the confidence and explosiveness.

Every time I watch this team I can't help but think of how much better we'd be with Hendrix still here. He'd make Knox and Green so much better and give us a real dominate presence inside.
