I do think Bama has hit a home run with Grant

I don't get it, but I guess there is a Debbie Downer in every crowd.
Anderson has had a terrible history of graduating players everywhere he has been. This is going to catch up with him with the recently implemented NCAA graduation rate standards in place. Saban seems to have no problems getting our football players to graduate based on the past two seasons. I don't see the two goals as mutually exclusive. He also has a very close history with Strollin Nolan Richardson, and not many people in the AD Department see that as a strong point for Anderson, and nor do I.
And, I think all of us should give pause before hiring someone with a $2 million dollar buyout like Miller, who I agree is a great coach, but let's be realistic-there is no way to justify paying that buy out just to get him.
Would I be pleased if we had hired Pittino, Calipari, or someone else with their history? You bet, but let's give Grant all of the support he deserves. HE IS OUR COACH AND I WILL BE BEHIND HIM 100%.
So there is justification to paying $2 million to a guy who has one tournament win and has not improved his team past the first year? Sounds like you guys have low expectations and will be satisfied with whatever came through the door.

Tubby Smith was in a downward spiral at Kentucky before he was forced out there. His program was in a steady slow decline. He won a NC in his first year with Pitino's players, and then slowly went downhill. If he couldn't keep the program at UK going strong, what makes you think he could come in and work miracles at Alabama?

I'm excited that we got a good young coach like Anthony Grant. I'm excited about Alabama basketball again, which I can truthfully say I have not been excited about it since around 2005.
Say the same thing about Grant that you said about Tubby. He had a good first year with Chapel's players then it never improved.

First, he's not getting 2 million. Second, don't you think you've made your point? I'd suggest you sleep on it tonight and consider how long you're going to continue your attacks. This is not the NonSports board. This is a basketball board. We make our point and we move on and support our school's choice, at least until we're proven right or wrong somewhere out in the future...

In 4 years Capel won 79 games at VCU. (his first head coaching gig)

In 3 years Grant won 76 games at VCU. (his first head coaching gig)

So am I to believe that Capel is a great coach and Grant is a lucky hack in the following three years?
Why don't we reserve our judgment and wait for him to prove or disprove in our arena, the accolades he's been given. Because nothing in his career shows, so far, that he is anything but a winner.
Yes. Capel took a program over from a guy who won 76 games prior? Nope. Try again.

Any coach that has Pitino and Donovan in his corner is an dang good hire, IMO. Take into account any on or off the court variable you want, but the fact is this man can coach and win. It doesn't matter if he wins with another man's players, so be it, but to win at a school like VCU is impressive.
Pelphrey has both of them in his corner to. Ask the Hogs about that one.

I get your point. I will be in the arena with Crimson. I will most likely shut up about Grant in about 3 days. But, for someone who drives 12 hours round trip to over half the home games I wanted someone I believed would lead the program into the right direction.

Grant would of been waaaaaay down the list. I am just tired of hearing the program I support can't "Get a coach of a high calibur." I'll give it a rest and say Go Coach Grant. Prove my complainin' arse wrong.
