I am elated with this hire. Beyond my pipe dream hire (Izzo) Coach Grant was my number one choice. His teams always play hard no matter the situation. They can break a press and play tight defense. We have more talent on the team right now than what he had to work with the whole time he was at VCU. I can not wait to see what he can do with that kind of talent.

BFNKY made some good points. But he couldn't let it go, and hung on like a pit bull.
So, that's what a pit bull is like. I don't want any part of that fight.

Re: Grant accepts Alabama offer

How funny and great would this be if it was just like the football coach hire?

Grant accepts/Rich Rodriguez accepts. Tomorrow, comes out that Grant hasn't taken the job, just like Rich Rodriguez. Then, a month down the road, or after the coach has played his final game (Izzo or Anderson) comes to Alabama.

Hey, I can dream can't I? . Would be interesting. Grant seems like a good coach. Maybe we can get excitement back into the program again.

Re: Grant accepts Alabama offer

Another way to use records for specious arguments:

1) 51-32 one trip to the NIT in first three years
2) (47-45) 10th place, 8th place, Tied for 3rd in conference) in first three years
3) 91-82 in first 7 seasons
4) (No head coaching experience)- 33-28 (18-18 in conference play)

Wow those coaches hadn't proven anything. But great coaches have to start somewhere don't they.

1) Rick Pitino
2) John Calipari
3) Jim Calhoun
4) Tom Izzo

These guys turned out to be pretty good coaches. This argument is baseless in proving that AG will one day be a Hall of Famer, but might shed some light that he's not destined to be a disaster just because he's not yet reached superstar status before he is given a chance.

The Kentucky mess makes me nervous, I hope that he signs the contract soon.

No worries mate. He's the deliberate type.(a plus in my book) He never would have gone with us without knowing the score on that front.

ThumbsUp Re: Grant accepts Alabama offer

to any naysayers, watch some vcu highlights or game clips and then listen to him speak in his pressers. great speaker, intelligent, poised, and energetic.

anderson was my first choice, i believe he was ours if the he hadnt rubbed some of the BOT the wrong way at uab.

but, forget it, this is an outstanding hire. im pretty certain kentucky is about to go through an ugly coaching search. lots of smoke around that program now with the way the gillispie situation was handled. they will get someone good, but the cals and donovans of the world arent gonna touch that with a ten foot pole. we might end up with a more proven up and comer than uk. chew on that for a minute!

i think we hired a great one in the making. i think when its all said and done, he could be the guy that propels this program into a formidable contender year in and year out.

i fully support this hire and welcome coach grant and his family!

I welcome Coach G with a new refreshed outlook on our basketball program! I look forward to the years to come.

Do you think we can call the former "Mark's Madness" section something like
The "G" Spot!!!!

Seriously, Coach G is a much better hire than CMA, who in my opinion had some good decent years at UAB, but really in my opinion never got the program where it could have gone. Sure he beat the likes of KY and Memphis, but not on a constant basis. You think if he had trouble getting along with the powers at UAB, how might things have been at UA.

The thing that needs to be realized about Grant, not only does he have 10+ years of learning from the best, but also he was Florida's head recruiter for most of those years. He brought in most of the talent that you saw during his time at UF. Watch and see how quick this changes recruiting.

I think we all can agree that the first thing he needs to do once introduced on Sunday is get on the phone at the earliest possible time and get DeMarcus Cousins back in state. I realize getting him to decommit from Memphis will be tough, but I want to see a front court rotation of Kemp/Green/ and Cousin whopping the SEC.

Would it help if I told you Pitino regards Grant as THE outstanding up and coming young coach in the country and that he had input? ??? Nah, I didn't think it would...
I think he has a man crush on Anderson, myself. It's the one name that is in EVERY post he's made.

The problem comes when the dissent crosses the line
We almost never discuss discipline, but this case is a little different. The rule involved is "ignorant sparring," which, loosely defined, is pointless and repeatedly trying to make your point by overwhelming those who disagree with you with volume. There're other ways to define it also - getting personal and abusive, etc. It's frequently a product of "one too many." I'd advised him a couple of times via PM to let it go for the evening, but his answers to me were even more belligerent than his posts here. This particular individual hadn't contributed a post to the site in over two years and then he made twenty-two rapid fire anti-Grant posts - some of them after being advised to give it a rest. That's a good blueprint of a way to get suspended...
