That is good news indeed! Now, let's all get behind Coach Grant, give him our support, and take the Tide to a whole new level of basketball prominence.

Re: Grant accepts Alabama offer

I posted this on another board. I am not one of the pleased Alabama fans with this hire. Bad move Mal.

Quote:
"We are seeking a sitting head coach at the college level, who is proven with championship-caliber experience," Moore said, "(a coach) we think can take us to that level."
Guess he meant championship level was winning the "Colonial Conference" and proven was winning one NCAA tournament game.

Saban = Grand Slam
Grant = Bunt

edit: This says it all. He got worse the further from the Capel years:
Quote:
Grant coached VCU to a 28-7 record in 2006-07, went 24-8 in 2007-08 and posted a 24-10 mark this season.

What did they do this year?
Top 50 RPI wins? Zero
Top 100 Record? 4-6
Top 100 Road Record? 0-2
200+ record? 11-3 (So 14 of 34 games were against 200+ ranked teams? hmy He lost Delaware, ECU and UNC Wilmington all teams ranked 200+

I still don't get how this guy meets any of the criteria Mal said he was looking for.

*EDIT* AND WE ARE PAYING HIM MORE THAN MISSOURI IS PAYING ANDERSON!

didn't say he was..Anderson/Calipari would be my top choice just for their style of play, with Grant behind them. Its still a huge upgrade for us regardless.
Big upgrade? His resume' was similar to CMG when he left Murray State in a similar conference. Only thing is CMG didn't take over Murray State from a great coach like Capel. Basically they hired him because Foley and Billy D. wanted him as a replacement at UF. Also, if I am right.... didn't Mal hire CMG?

Re: Grant accepts Alabama offer

This is an excellent hire. I know several FL fans that will tell you that they were wanting CBD to take the KY job so they could pick up CAG. They believe this is a case where the protégé will end up being much better than his mentor.

I didn't know much about him until this week; but from what I hear, he was instrumental in the recruitment and coaching of FL's B2B National Championship team.

I am excited about Alabama BB once again. I agree, season tickets are going to be on my list as well.
