I wouldn't put Memphis and "dark days" together just yet. It will depend on who Memphis could get to replace Calipari. If they could get a guy like Jay Wright (Nova, obviously after the Final Four), Sean Miller (Xavier) or a long shot like Mark Few (Gonzaga) then they could keep going. But if they hire an uninspiring coach like Tim Floyd, then sure dark days are coming.
There are also rumors of them going after Anderson at Mizou. I think Memphis would be a good fit for him.

BigAl413, 2 NCAA runner up, 3 final fours, 6 elite eights, 11 sweet sixteens, 21 tournament appearances, 13 All-Americans and a 19000 seat arena and a rabid fanbase. What is your definition of an elite job? Even our beloved Crimson Tide cannot match those numbers. Memphis is a very elite job.
I know a team isn't based solely on the coach, but didn't Calipari get most of those?

48 hours ago , SEC basketball was in the can . No longer . Calipari , Donovan , Pearl , Grant and Johnson look like a pretty strong group of coaches to me . Stansbury , Stallings and Horn aren't exactly terrible so the SEC is back on the rise

When Kentucky hired Gillespie, they steered away from Calipari. Now it appears that Kentucky has decided that winning is more important than maintaining a clean program that graduates players.

Don't these numbers include the same occurances during one NCAA run? For example, when they made it to a final game, then they also made the Final Four, Elite Eight, Sweet Sixteen, Tourny Appearance? This seems to inflate the numbers to me...
Does this count the year (84 I think) that was taken away by the NCAA due to probation?

I agree. Memphis is a very good job, but it's not an elite job. UCLA, Kentucky, Indiana, North Carolina, Duke, and Kansas are elite jobs.
ESPN says that Calipari was at his regular donut store this morning, and he said that he needs to make a decision between Kentucky and Memphis this afternoon.
In a related story, Phillip Fulmer is screaming angerly, "Stay out of my turf!!!!"

ESPN just reported a salary of of $35,000,000...8 years.
Wildcat Maniacs are reporting 5 mil annually. Either way that is an insane amount. Would the 5 mil mark if true make him the highest paid coach in College Sports, basketball or football.

You cannot claim to be an elite program without a National Championship, sorry. LSU can nearly claim those same numbers (theirs might be better for all I know), and they are hardly an elite basketball program.
