I posted this on the IZZO thread...

I think Anderson stays at Mizzou, although there is talk of him to Memphis if Cal takes UK. I also hear that Pitino may jump to AZ. (Speculation). If so, UGA may have to "settle" for someone they had as a number 3 or 4. Then again, Mark Gottfried is available and Gillespie.

Glad we are spectating!

re: Looks like Calipari to UK is going to happen...

Can any of you remember when the basketball coaching carousel has been quite like this year. This has been a crazy couple of days for me. I guess I have a pretty big interest seeing as I have been a KY bball fan all my life ( I grew up there) and I went to Bama. I have a vested interest in both, eventhough I'm Bama fan first.

You might want to change the title of this thread....

Memphis Basketball

Looks like he's going to KY.

Calipari to Kentucky

LOL at their home page.

Next Anderson goes to Memphis...and oh no! Looks like Georgia is about to lose this round of musical coaches.

re: Looks like Calipari to UK is going to happen...

The rumors are that he takes Demarcus Cousins, that Henry guy that's like the number two or three recruit, and maybe some other recruits with him to KU

Its also strongly rumored that a couple of their players, one guy's name I can't remember and that Sallie guy who scored 35 in the opening round are going to transfer there. And all the assistants are going.

Meaning with all of the graduations and NBA jumps Memphis could literally just have a handful of players by next week. Amazing, talk about building a program and then just practically destroying it in a day.

Of course those are rumors but they're apparently pretty strong ones. Especially with the recruits.

Memphis is not an elite job. Calipari made Memphis relevant. Aside from the Penny Hardaway days, Memphis was mired in mediocrity before they took a flier on Calipari, who wasn't getting many calls from big time schools thanks to his flame-out in the Pros.

Memphis will be lucky to end up with a Phillip Pearson type. The much better question is, who will UGA get stuck with?

Personally, I could see Anthony Grant pulling Cousins to Alabama.

Calipari is about to become public enemy #1 in Memphis. Can you imagine losing your coach, some of your better current players, and the number one recruiting class in one fell swoop. Dark days ahead for Memphis if this plays out like the rumors currently predict.

I wouldn't put Memphis and "dark days" together just yet. It will depend on who Memphis could get to replace Calipari. If they could get a guy like Jay Wright (Nova, obviously after the Final Four), Sean Miller (Xavier) or a long shot like Mark Few (Gonzaga) then they could keep going. But if they hire an uninspiring coach like Tim Floyd, then sure dark days are coming.

BigAl413, 2 NCAA runner up, 3 final fours, 6 elite eights, 11 sweet sixteens, 21 tournament appearances, 13 All-Americans and a 19000 seat arena and a rabid fanbase. What is your definition of an elite job? Even our beloved Crimson Tide cannot match those numbers. Memphis is a very elite job.
