Its a question that every coach has to answer: Do you seek to win regardless, and by that I mean do you take on players with questionable character but unquestionable ability? Personally I like to win, but I also like to be proud of those representing Alabama. Of course I understand people can change...

There is enough talent out there, we don't have to accept Questionable Character, let Miss State do that stuff.

good point. My wife taught DeMarcus at Leflore and she said his work ethic and attitude both leave something to be desired. Of course, he can change as a collegiate student athlete. I just wonder if Alabama was ever in the mix at all for Cousins.
i would hope that, after we made it a point not to hire Anderson due to the type of players he brought to UAB, that CAG does not make us contradict ourselves.

Not going to happen. From everything I have heard, CAG and DC would probably mix like oil and water. CAG will weed out discipline problems before they ever have a chance to negatively impact his team iow while recruiting.
Cousins does not care which university he attends. He ONLY cares about who his coach is going to be. I am certain that he will follow Calipari if he takes the UK job. If Calipari doesn't take the UK job and stays in Memphis, Cousins will go to Memphis to play for Calipari.
Cousins was interested in UAB ONLY because of a relationship with Mike Davis. When UAB was unwilling to meet Cousins demands, UAB was scratched off of his list...because it was possible that Mike Davis would not be there.
Coach Grant need not waste his time contacting Cousins...

There were a few other negatives in play with Coach Anderson . Some of which had nothing to do with players

Cousins' comments regarding Bama. From Rivals at the McDonald's All American Game.
Quote:
Cousins acknowledged that Memphis would be eliminated from consideration if Calipari were to leave. He also said that Kentucky and in-state school Alabama would be considered. Kansas State and Washington were the closest competitors with Memphis for Cousins when he committed.
"I'm just waiting like everybody else," said Cousins about the Calipari situation. "If he leaves, I guess I'll have to start all the way over."
I say go after him. If he breaks a rule, cut him lose. We can't hamstring the new coach right off the bad and make him pass on top ten national players.
What are you guys smoking?
Is he academically qualified?
Does he have a felony arrest record?
Then what is the problem?
I mean I have read all your post and I am still not really clear why Bama should pass on this player that every other school in the country is willing to recruit.

What do the names DJ Hall, Terrell Owens, Pac-Man Jones, Ron Artest, Allen Iverson, Michael & Marcus Vick etc. have in common? All were/are superb athletic talents who eventually became cancers to their respective teams.
Sometimes there are intangibles that can't be measured simply in grades, arrest records, and recruiting rankings. If CAG thinks this kid is worth the risk, then I have no choice but to trust his judgement. However, there just seems too much uncertainty surrounding the recruitment of Cousins.
