Why I do what I do (TideFans.com & PHD)

I have been working on some research analysis for a while now that is soon to become the basis for my dissertation. I have 50 hours of interviews, 3000 pages of typed transcripts, thousands of quotes, and hundreds of pages of analysis. My brain hurts and I know that if I keep plugging away at this, I'll be finished sooner rather than later.
However, it's football season around the corner and that means I NEED to keep up with what's going on - not just because I run / own this site, but because it's part of me.
That's something I don't think my professors understand very well. I've only ever told one of them about this site because I'm not sure what they would think (not that it would stop me from doing it but it might make my life harder if they knew). I do this site out of love (you should see my bank account for proof!). I also do research because I like it and I like the people I work with.
However, Alabama football and UA in general mean a WHOLE lot more to me than anything else I've ever done. It's why I stay connected. It's why I started this site. It's why I've gone in the hole many times to keep the site running. But more importantly, I know that there are thousands of others out there just like me! And that excites me and keeps me motivated.
The professor I mentioned the site to has now said that maybe we could use it as a research project.
I'm thinking this would be a great way to connect my love with my like

Brett,
Thank you so much for this site!! I know it can be a huge burden, but the joy and camaraderie so many of us get from visiting here each and every day mean more to us than you can imagine. I consider TideFans my online home and am very thankful to be able to benefit from all you're hard work and your love of the Tide.
