Let the flaming begin. :)

Global warming appears to have stalled. Climatologists are puzzled as to why average global temperatures have stopped rising over the last 10 years. Some attribute the trend to a lack of sunspots, while others explain it through ocean currents.

AUSTIN — Texans: Are you really married?

Maybe not.

Barbara Ann Radnofsky, a Houston lawyer and Democratic candidate for attorney general, says that a 22-word clause in a 2005 constitutional amendment designed to ban gay marriages erroneously endangers the legal status of all marriages in the state.

The amendment, approved by the Legislature and overwhelmingly ratified by voters, declares that "marriage in this state shall consist only of the union of one man and one woman." But the troublemaking phrase, as Radnofsky sees it, is Subsection B, which declares:

"This state or a political subdivision of this state may not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage."

Architects of the amendment included the clause to ban same-sex civil unions and domestic partnerships. But Radnofsky, who was a member of the powerhouse Vinson & Elkins law firm in Houston for 27 years until retiring in 2006, says the wording of Subsection B effectively "eliminates marriage in Texas," including common-law marriages.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson on Wednesday night criticized Rep. Artur Davis (D-Ala.) for voting against the Democrats’ signature healthcare bill.

“We even have blacks voting against the healthcare bill,” Jackson said at a reception Wednesday night. “You can’t vote against healthcare and call yourself a black man.”

The remark stirred a murmur at the reception, held by the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Foundation as part of a series of events revolving around the 25th anniversary of Jackson’s run for president. Several CBC members were in attendance, including Chairwoman Barbara Lee (D-Calif.), who’d introduced Jackson.

Davis, who is running for governor, is the only black member of Congress from Alabama.

When I watch old movies such as "It's a Wonderful Life" I can't help but notice that all the men are properly dressed. The men all wear suits and dress hats such as fedoras. Now men never wear hats with their suits, and they only wear suits to weddings and funerals. If you watch copies of old Bama games from the 1960's and before you see everyone wearing suits. So when did society start dressing down? And when did men stop wearing hats with their suits, that is on the rare occasion that a man acctually wears a suit? Where have the George Bailey's of the world gone?

So I'm currently enjoying the wonders of rinsing my nose out with saline a couple times a day. I call up my grocery store pharmacist and ask if they can provide me with another couple liters of it. The clerk says in a very lovely voice, "Sure, just give us a couple hours to fill that for you."

1. Why in the hell do I have a prescription for salt water solution? I could make it myself, or I'm sure there is some sitting on the shelf if I went around and looked (which I'm in no mood to do.)

2. Why does it take a COUPLE HOURS to slap a sticker on a bottle and give it to me? They arent actually dissolving up their own saline. They are printing out a sticker, slapping it on a bottle, and handing it to me.

and people wonder why our healthcare system is completely in the crapper.

Why Do People Always Spend T-Giving With Their Crazy Families

I have so many friends that go hang out with their families, only to come...

I have so many friends that go hang out with their families, only to come back talking about how miserable they were. They talk about how everyone was nice the first 30 minutes and then bickering, pettiness, and boorish drunken behavior sets in. They swear they will never hang out with them again. Then they go back and do it again for Christmas with the exact same results. Then the following year they do it again. So why do people feel this mandatory need to go make themselves miserable every holiday by spending it with people they know they can't stand? I actually like my family so it isn't an issue with me, but the best Thanksgiving I ever had was one where about 4 random friends went to New Orleans for Thanksgiving and almost died every day we were there. Awesome trip and great holiday vacation.

Another quarter goes by, and GM loses...

Another quarter goes by, and GM loses another cool billion. And that's not even actually for the entire quarter... they only count the portion of the third quarter after GM emerged from bankruptcy in mid-July. But hey, at least it's not like the 10 million they lost in the first quarter, right?

The funny (read sad) thing about it all is that the entire GM leadership is trying to spin this as a great sign of the company's recovery. And what is more, they are touting their ability to quickly pay back their government bailout, but notice the wording:

The company also said it will begin repaying $6.7 billion in U.S. government loans with a $1.2 billion payment in December. It plans to repay the debt over the next eight quarters, but could pay it back as early as next year. But the money will come from funds loaned by the government.

They are touting their company strengths on their ability to pay back old government debt... by getting new government debt.
Isn't it fun living in 1984?
