So we ran out of buttermilk this morning at the restaurant for our egg...

So we ran out of buttermilk this morning at the restaurant for our egg wash, and I always just make a substitute. I figured I would post it on here, because a lot of people will be baking stuff around this time of year, and sometimes it isnt feasible to buy a lot of buttermilk when you only need 1/4 cup.

I just add a tablespoon of white vinegar per cup of milk and let it sit for about 5 minutes.

Hope this may help some of ya'll out and save ya a little money around the holidays!

I figured I would go ahead and start the thread even tho its already game day haha...

I'm being a lil different today than normal for game day. I have went and purchased a 10 pound Spiral Cut Ham, some freshly sliced provolone cheese from the deli, fresh baked hoagie rolls, some vine ripened tomatoes, and some shredded iceberg lettuce.

Gonna make a honey glaze up for the ham and slow cook it for a few hours.

It's gonna be a great day for upscale Ham & Cheese at my house.

I got your $5 footlong right here Subway...haha

I'm not sure that I've ever ran across anyone who doesn't like chili, which leads to my question.......Why is it almost impossible to get a good bowl of chili at a restaurant or fast food joint? Or, why isn't chili even on the menu at so many eateries?

I've had some good chili at a few diners, but they usually only offer it on certain days, not as an everyday offering. I think Wendy's chili is pretty good, but I can make better at home, as can a lot of folks.

Maybe that's the reason, most folks just prefer their own. :conf2:

Hey guys, just thought I'd share a recipe I'll be making in the coming weeks, I love this around the holidays and its so easy.

Caramel Pie

1 graham cracker pie crust
chocolate chips
pecans
whipped cream
2 cans of Eagle Brand condensed milk

Remove wrappers from condensed milk but do not open cans.

Cover cans in water in a deep dutch oven.

Boil for 4 hours. (Make sure that the cans remain covered with water, if the water dips below the top of the can for a period of time, the can will explode. I usually have to add water about every 20 minutes or so.)

Remove cans and let sit for 10 minutes.

Open cans (be careful, because caramel will ooze out and be very hot.

Pour into pie shell and place in refrigerator for an hour or so to chill.

Remove and add whipped cream, choc chips, and pecans.

I'll try to add some pictures when I get time to cook these.

I'm looking for a good and fairly easy recipe for peanut brittle. I have a recipe but it comes out a little too hard and a little chewy. I know its supposed to be hard, but I like it crunchy. Someone told me to add more baking soda. I tried to post this on the recipe forum but it was to add a recipe and I'm the last person to add a recipe.
