Alabama recruiting notebook: Defensive backs key to Tide recruiting class

Quote:
There are some people in football who believe that the most important place to have quality talent is the secondary, especially cornerback.

They have a point. A shutdown cornerback, or someone with enormous potential as a playmaker, can be extremely difficult to find because anyone with the size and speed needed to excel will almost always play wide receiver instead.

Already, the University of Alabama has three verbal commitments from potentially potent defensive backs -- Hoover safety Cory Reamer, cornerback Chris Felder of Butler County (Kan.) Community College and Decatur safety Sam Burthall.

Note

I teach at Hoover and have been to some of their games this year. Not only is Reamer a fine player but he is a class act as a human being and a great student.

Thats great to hear! True character is irreplaceable and not very coachable these days.

I still believe we will add Terrell Smith, possibly get Chris Rogers to decommit from MD, and Jerraud Powers since we have his teammate Sam Burnthall already!

That is great info to hear about Cory Reamer rolltide92276. Keep us updated this football season about the football performance of Cory. It sounds like there will not be any questions about him and qualifying with him being recruited by Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech.

I hope Peprah looks at what happened to some of the other Bama juniors that recently left early for the NFL. I would think he would stay and play his senior year. To finish his education and improve his playing abilities and his draft status. I think the rate of success for Bama players leaving early is about 50 percent or less lately. There were only two of the recent juniors that left that made it on a roster to start the season. They are Justin Smiley and Antwan Odom. Of course I would wish him well what ever his decision is.

Bama in the NFL
