I do not base my opinion on my Fav player only on ability.....That is what makes this so hard b/c through the years there has been many players at UA that were great players with more heart that ability.
1. Donnie Sutton wr/s one of the last both way players that went to Med School over NFL...once had 10 receptions vs Ucheat in the 70's.
2. Terry Rowell sub 190 # nt in the 70's.
3.Steadman Shealy qb played on NC team with blown knee.
4.Lane Bearden ditto with knee.
5.Jay Barker just won.
6.W Neighbors blew 1/2 foot off in off season and played well vs Miami in 1992.
I could go on,but I think the idea is clear, and I like all these the same.
In my opinion these kind of players is what makes UA football special.

Spencer Hammond.
He liked to hit and he brought the wood.
I have to second this one, except I think Jeremiah Castille was a harder hitter.
I actually have the '88 Iron Bowl on tape. We lost that year, but the only reason I have kept it all these years is because of the hit Hammond "The Bandit" put on Stacey Danley of Auburn and knocked him out cold.
I keep the tape right at that position in the game and get it out and watch it every once in a while.
I just want to thank God for blessing me with some athletic talent and letting me play for the University of Alabama.* Derrick Thomas in accepting the Butkus Trophy in 1988.
I loved to watch that guy play on Saturday's and Sunday's. When he was with the Chiefs I actually watched NFL games. Heck I lived in Tampa one year and KC came to town. I went to the game just so I could watch him play. AWESOME!
Nothing like watching that 55 fly around and sack the QB. Also I recall one of his final NFL seasons where Oakland was at KC fopr a MNF game and they had Oakland pinned on the 1 yard line. Ol DT walked up to the line and gave the Saftey signal, crowd went nuts, and he did it. Then the crowd went really nuts. To me that was like watching Babe Ruth call his shot on a HR. I miss DT....

Terry Davis #10 in '71/'72 was my favorite. I'm not sure Coach Bryant would have stuck with the wishbone had we not had a great QB who could run that offense. Davis was tremendous. Bryant even put in a plug for him as a Heisman candidate.
My favorite of all time has always been #4 Mr. Joey Jones.
To see him make his trademark stretch catches in the endzone made me want to be like him. I was (am) short but I was always fast (lost a step in the past 15 years but can still hold my own) just like Joey......And during my very first Alabama game (we lost to LSU at Legion Field) during Bear's final year I saw Joey make one of those catches that I will never forget.
During High School I used to have my wrists taped and then I put tape on them backwards like Joey did. It was his belief that if you have the sticky side out it will help the ball stick if you bobble it a little.

[QUOTE=Alanbama27]I was Johnny when I played as a kid! He was one of the greatest UA players without a doubt, but you're the first person to say they had a crush on him. Most crushes were for Major Ogalvie a few years later or Richard Todd, Terry Davis, Steadman Shealy...but not geneally the Italian Stallion![/QUOTE
Well actually my first crush ( at age 10 ) on a Bama player was Joe Namath, but I didn't want y'all to know how old I am ! I have a secret crush on Terry Davis now, but because I know him... LOL...
Now: Wes Britt.
I will always remeber Britt on the gurney with his helmet on pointing up to heaven and then to his team, then pumping his fist as 80,000plus chanted Roll Tide. I expect the Tennessee game to have special meaning this year for him. I get a tear in my eye thinking about it. RTR
