Columbia

I lived in Columbia for about 4 years and left for a little town about 20 miles from there. I pretty much have to agree that Columbia, with a few exceptions, is a very forgettable place. I don't care much for their stadium, but the visitors seats are not as bad as some others I'd been to, and are probably better seats than visitors get at B-D. Forget the "Cockabooses". Those are privately owned and if you don't know somebody who owns one, you're out of luck.

If you want to stay in Columbia, they have a nice Hampton Inn on Gervais Street. It's far superior to the one in Tuscaloosa. You'd also be in the middle of what they call the "Vista", which has a number of bars, restaraunts, and shopping and is only about 2 miles from the stadium. They have a good zoo here,, but I can't think of anything that is a "must-see" or "must_do" in Columbia. However, you would probably enjoy a stay in Charleston much better.

Good Restaraunts (non-chain): Dianne's on Devine (upscale, make reservations), California Dreaming (casual, big, all kinds of food), Mack's on Main (BBQ), Yesterdays (casual), Rockaways (casual).

I'll list bars closer to game-day, because if I list them now, they'll have been closed and replaced 3 or 4 times before game-day.

You guys are great! Thanks for all the information. As the season gets closer, I'll check to see who else from Tidefans will be making the trip. This will be only the second time I've seen Bama on the road. THe first was the UCLA game a few years ago.

Hotels in Columbia

Anything around the mall area(I-26 and Harbinson Blvd.)is nice, lots of good places to eat, good hotels, etc. Try Stickey Fingers for ribs behind the mall.

My Mood: Cheerful

We're staying in the Residence in on Stoneridge Drive...

does anybody know how far it is to the stadium and if it's a decent hotel as most Residence Inn's are?

A friend of ours reserved our rooms and we're hoping their at least nice enough to stay in for two nights.

Ribs? Maybe. Wings? Order Drumettes, extra crispy with habanero sauce. It's a "can't miss."

BTW, a lot of the resturants mentioned in this thread originated in Charleston. California Dreamin is great out on the islands.

The only time I've been in Columbia was when I was in Basic Training at Ft. Jackson. I don't have alot of fond memories of the place.
