I usually am able to make it back to Tuscaloosa once a year. Now, I'm going to start adding a road game to my vacation plans. I'm going to the game in Columbia; it's not a bad ride from D.C. Has anyone been there? Do you have any recommendations on places to eat, things I must see, etc.? Thanks.

It is a nice stadium. That's about all I'll give it.
Honestly, as many times as I've been through and in Columbia I can't think of anything that really sticks out in my mind. I've pretty well made it a practice to eat at Damon's. It's set up pretty similiar to the one in B-ham...and even though it is a chain the food still is eatible.
They do have a nice memorial park set up for veterans of the wars, but it's no more than a 30-45 minute stop.
Don't expect to get something to eat around the stadium. It's situated in the middle of a warehouse district, parking is a pain in the neck, etc. If you manage to find a few Bamafans parked together you'll get a brief recollection of what a real tail-gate party is suppose to be. But you won't experience it.
I live in Charleston so it's not that bad of a game day experience for me. It's a one day affair, much like it is for those living in B-ham and shooting down to T-town for a game day...minus the campus atmosphere.
They do have George Rogers old locker glassed in...might want to see if you can get around and check for cocain residue. (Oh, that was just wrong....)
Again, nice stadium.
If you get tickets, try to avoid anything lower than row 10. In fact, they have two, row 1's. One, right on the rail...then another starting behind the walkway around the stadium.
If you know any Gamecock fans...you may want to try to get into Caboose/Railroad car set up they have next to the stadium. It's crowded on Gamedays, I'll warn ya.
Honestly. I'd get a room in Charleston. Good sights, good food, you can't beat it. It's about a 2 hour drive to the stadium (with game day traffic). It simply is something you can't compare to staying in Columbia. The only thing you'll have to worry about is the mind-set around here. We are still trying to figure out "since it's tourist season, why can't we shoot them."

son used to live in Columbia. We stopped a couple of times to see him and I was unimpressed with the town - even with the motels.

I too have thought about going to Columbia this year. It is closer than Tuscaloosa for me. Last 2 years I've made about every game in T-town, but not good posting about Columbia. I too have heard they have a nice stadium.
Terry, I thank you and everyone else for the input -- especially regarding the accommodations. I'm meeting some buddies in Columbia, but none of them have been there before either. I'll pass your info on to them. Thanks again.

I just heard about the Caboose/railroad thing. Can anyone go down there? What do you mean Terry "if you can get in"?
For one, I know the rent some of the cars out on game days. Maybe all of them, but I don't think so since the last time I was there I saw many people going in and out.
Add to that...it is gameday. If you have ever tried to get in...say the Houndstooth on a game day, or especially a night game, you will quickly understand.

SCRammerJammer used to live in Columbia. In fact, I think he still does. You might want to drop him a PM for more info.
If you guys are golfers, you might also consider the Santee area. Several great courses in that area, not as much of a night life, but after 36 holes or so you probably won't have that much energy to play them anyway. I was in Santee and then Sumter Thursday and Friday of last week and I'll head up there again, soon. Even with all the courses in this area, it's worth the 1 hr drive and overnight stay.
I am making my virgin voyage to Columbia this year. I am gonna fly into Greenville and stay with friends in Anderson. My friend is a Clemson grad and is going to the game with me! Should be fun
I live an hour from Columbia. Where can I buy some tickets for the bama-sc game? I prefer to buy them from a bama person/athletic department. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you know any of the Barbour's?
As to tickets, I'd check out the ticket forums on sites like this one or hit Rolltide.com when single game tickets go on sale.
