PS.
CSS did not yank those scholarships on a whim. He has had to clean house after the last regime. I am sure he gave those young man an ultimatim that if they did not do certain things with respect to academics/football, they would lose their scholarships. They obviously didn't and CSS being a man of his word, took them away.

Redwood - 35-0. Oh how painful that loss was. We didn't pretty good immediately after that though, if memory serves |

I've always admired Spurrier. Love to watch him roam the sidelines and like to watch his teams - except when they play Bama.
My only problem with him is that he is a VERY sore loser. Doesn't handle it well at all. I can respect anyone not wanting/liking to lose; but he seems to always cast blame everywhere else when his teams lose.

He has the best post-game press conferences in the history of the game.
I truly enjoy them.

It took me a while, but I discoverd that the reason so many folks don't like SOS aren't all that different from the reasons the rest of the SEC isn't too keen on us. Success breeds jealousy. | | | | | You have to love Spurrier's coaching philosophy, he is never afraid to take chances.Outside of Coach Shula, he is my most respected Coach in the SEC. Also, you have to love what he does to Phat Phil.

Alabama is 2- and 3-deep all over the place with full grown, meaner-than-he!! men. It's almost not fair making college kids play against them. Any Saban-coached team is going to be deep as he!! with recruits that have elite size, strength and experience at their position and they are going to play with incredible physicality.
I support PAWS.

Who else but the Ol' Ball Coach could come up with the same sort of subtle, sardonic answer when asked his opinion of new Florida coach Urban Meyer?
Said Spurrier, with a characteristic shrug of the shoulders: "He has a great four-year record as a head coach.'' You almost expected him to add: "Two years in the MAC and two years in the Mountain West.'' http://www.al.com/sports/huntsvillet...840.xml&coll=1 |

He's always struck me as being extremely immature the way he simply can't handle losing with any class at all. It's always somebody else's fault, you won't catch him taking any blame, exactly the polar opposite of Coach Bryant.
I'm anxious to see how effective his "ball plays" are going to be the second time around in the SEC. Personally, I don't think he'll be lighting up the scorebard like the first time around. Matter of fact, it wouldn't shock me to see him on the wrong side of some lopsided scores.

I agree with T-Mac. The waters at SC are going to be very rough for a few years, & considering his attitude towards losing......just have to wait & see.
This statement by Silencer, I think, is pretty accurate : "Steve will not be able to handle SC, he doesn't have the character to hold them together through the first few years."

He's an amazing coach. Period. What he did at Florida in the 90's is simply amazing. Teams feared going to The Swamp and just wanted to get out of there without getting embarassed.
The way his teams dominated really, really good UT teams was ridiculous. It seemed like every year you just knew it didn't matter how good UT was, they were going to get embarassed by the ole ball coach. I really enjoyed seeing Fulmer sooo frustrated against Florida.
Also, let's face it, the guy understands offense. He understands what plays to call in certain situations and has an uncanny feel for the passing game. He understands college football better than most coaches in my opinion.
I'm very happy to see him back because he's such a dynamic figure. He belongs in college football and the SEC was not the same without him. Sure, some of his characteristics people find irritating, such as his constant whining on the sideline, a knack for running up the score (though I dont buy people being upset by it), and his post game interviews where he seems to add insult to injury to some teams.
I find that all of those percieved negative traits do add to Spurrier's persona and I find most of those quirks hilarious anyways. The guy is an innovator and a great coach..period.

I agree with what most of you have said. He's a great coach and I respect him tremendously. He told you his teams were good and that he was going to beat you. He would also give your team praise when he lost to you. He was very respectful to Bama after the SEC Championship game in 1999. And as mentioned earlier, when he had a problem with some recruiting practices, he went about it the right way.
You may hate him because he's on the other sideline, which means he has a good shot at beating you. But you would love to have him on your sideline. I think he's a class act.

I have two friends and a brother-in-law that know him personally and professionally (FB Coaches). They all agree - Spurrier is an absolute jerk, on and off of the field.
Personally, I can only vouch for what I have seen on the sidelines. I would never allow one of my boys to play for this man...
