Recruit's Mindset

OK, so this is one thing that I don't understand.

Assuming that a HS player wants to get to the pro's from college... Why do they so feverishly seek early playing time as a true freshman. It appears to me that if I wanted to get to the next level, that I would want to sit out a year, mature, concentrate on getting bigger and faster so that I could make more of an impact, and physically and mentally be more prepared than the others.

This really seems logical to me, and I can't understand why players can be sold on getting to play so soon.

Please enlighten me.

Because of age...

they all believe they are supermen who can make the NFL in three years, max. Normal for the age and testosterone level. They don't analyze it in the fashion you've just used...

Yeah, we are talking about kids that are 18 years old here... They dont make adult decisions all the time. You can throw logic out the window.

not just that, but you're talking about guys who've played for 4, sometimes 5, years straight in HS and been "all everything" while there. it's hard for them to think they couldn't do the same in college. i understand why not. you do also, i'm sure. however, we're talking about 17 year-olds. they look to the future but THINK in immediate terms (i.e., what can i do NOW to show that i'm ready for the NFL?). unless forced to do so (as in OBVIOUSLY too small or not strong enough), they just can't fathom not playing to bulk up in order to be a more effective player (and, thus, more appealing to the NFL scouts).
