Stallings was at the helm at the beginning of our NCAA problems. I like to believe that he just made a mistake, but I don't really care to have the field named after him because of it. I am not saying he is a bad man, but he did cause the university some problems with the Langham thing.
I think Hootie Ingram, more than Coach Stallings, deserves credit for the Langham problem.
The Modern Era, is everything from 1990 -- to present day
I'd like to know where all of this hostility comes from??
whenever I display an opinion, It's always flooded with negative, sarcastic comments
I'm trying to participate like everyone else, and I'd appreciate a little less sarcasm, b/c it's hurtful and nobody likes it....
roll tide roll
No hostility on this. I started to call you a young punk and decided it was hostile. I just knew you are much younger than me. But seriously no hostiility intended. Warped sense of humor, yes, hostility mp.

Stallings basically told the NCAA to hit the road. I think that caused a lot of closer scrutiny than would otherwise have occurred.

I've never cared for the whole field naming thing. It seems pointless to me, like the stadium and the field are two separate entities that have nothing to do with each other.
The original Alabama field was Denny Field. Since the name is now Bryant-Denny, the Denny part probably refers more to the field than the Bryant part anyway. The major tribute to the Bryant name is the stadium itself. With the walk of champions honoring the four national champion coaches we should not start listing names for the stadium. Changing the name from Denny to Bryant-Denny was bad enough. Pretty soon names are going to be too annoying to bother with. I mean "Pat Dye Field at Jordan-Hare Stadium," and "Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field?" Give me a break.
"...Thank you for tuning in to CBS's coverage of the Alabama-Auburn game here in Tuscaloosa. Welcome to Stallings-Thomas Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Lets go to Michelle Tafoya who is with Tyrone Prothro under the Van Tiffin North End-Zone Field Goal Posts"

As much as I liked Gene Stallings, I have always felt there is a bit of a black cloud still hanging over him. Didn't he know that Langham had talked to an agent and then changed his mind and still let him play the next year?
I think they should name the sideline after stallings. I wish shula would hire him to talk to the refs during games.

Interestingly, it seemed the louder the drumbeat grew from the national media, which almost in unison aimed its poison darts at Saban for his unseemly stream of denials, the more united and defiant Tide fans grew in support of their man

I think that Stallings said that he asked Langham about it, and Langham said he had no contact with an agent. Stallings said he had to believe his players. Now Ingram should have taken it further, but I wonder if the ncaa did not produce the evidence until after the fact. I do know that the ncaa lost a lawsuit filed by a Bama professor over this incident.
