Just so everyone will know, when people refer to the "modern era" of college football, it is generally understood that they are referring to 1950 and beyond...For instance, UT was the first SEC team to win a national championship in the "modern era", under General Neyland in that year...That being said, I think it could be safely said that Stallings was definitely the best coach we've had outside of Bryant in that time period, since Wade and Thomas both coached before 1950...

With all due respect to Coach Gene Stallings, I just do not like the idea of separately naming the field. It is "Bryant - Denny", and this is very fitting for the entire structure, including the field, the turf, and the goal posts. Adding another name just does not sound appropriate. We don't need to follow Awbarn's lead on anything, certainly not this.
I do like the statue thing. Very fitting for the great coaches. I believe it gives recruits, including students more respect for our great tradition.
I do not like naming the field period. I also do not like the "Walk of Champions", it is reminiscent of something they already do at Knoxville and Auburn.
I love Gene Stallings and all he has done for the University but I do not want our field named after anyone. I don't like the sound of it. The field should have been named before the stadium. It wasn't. There is a stadium that has a great name there. Bryant-Denny stadium, kinda has a nice ring to it.
Roll Tide and leave it at that.

The Field WAS named before the stadium. The only thing is the field was moved and a stadium built around it so what was called Denny Field, became Denny Stadium

They also do it at Georgia and several other places throughout the country. The Auburn AD decided since it was so successful at Auburn that was THEIR tradition and he called it "... the most copied tradition in all of college football."
Their "Tiger Walk" is successful, but when you get down to it, it's just a glorified event where the fans greet and cheer the players as they walk from the Hill to the stadium. Calling any sort of 'Walk' a unique tradition is a stretch at best. That's kind of like claiming the first stadium ever built, then saying that everyone else is copying you and they should find their own tradition.
We've always greeted our players as they walk into the stadium, it's just been on a small scale at the south endzone. Not that many people participated because it's so far from the quad and the other festivities, and there is not very much space on that end. Now we are just providing an area for more fans to join in that is not detached feeling like the south endzone.
Crimson$ is right...it was called Denny Field back in the golden days when all you had were stands and grass.
Our "Walk of Champions" is actually a "something" and not just an event. Auburn has an EVENT called the "Tiger Walk"...we will have a physical place called the "Walk of Champions". We are not copying Auburn...heck...we're probably not copying anyone in college football since we set the standards for championships. I think what we are doing is great and just reminds the players and fans of what it took to build the stadium they are about to walk in. Let those players know why 90,000+ fans are there to see them play. It's not about them...it's about who they represent out there on the field. How dare anyone compare us to Auburn. THIS IS ALABAMA FOOTBALL!!!
RTR!

I remember my first game as a child and the amazing feeling I got when I first walked into Bryant-Denny. I still get that same feeling every single game.
I think that Stallings said that he asked Langham about it, and Langham said he had no contact with an agent. Stallings said he had to believe his players. Now Ingram should have taken it further, but I wonder if the ncaa did not produce the evidence until after the fact. I do know that the ncaa lost a lawsuit filed by a Bama professor over this incident.
That's right, you cant sideline every player over what was rumor at the time. You turn your back on your players and they'll do it to you. I'm with TidefaninFL.
