I believe he dropped us. I think it's between S. Carolina and Florida.
Now, there are 2 schools steeped in tradition.

In the article it mentions Ohio texted Voss an offer. Doesn't he at least deserve a phone call? If I was a recruit I wouldn't be too thrilled with just a text message.

Especially from Ohio! You'd think they would want to do something more than that.

I wish I had said that. If I recall about a month ago we beat the "tradition thread" to death as to what it meant to a recruit. Garcia's comments on our tradition were very encouraging to some. Now he has dropped us or the coaching staff found 2 other Florida QBs they prefer over Garcia, not sure which is the case. I do not know who his favorites are at this point, but if it is USC and UF then tradition was, in the end, not a factor to him. As someone said in those threads, unless a recruit grew up a die hard Alabama fan it is more about recent tradition and recent success or the chance to play for a legendary coach that influences a kid's decision.
Re: Recruiting: Alton Voss has eyes on Crimson Tide
GratTide,
I believe tradition played a huge roll in several of signees this past season. More than one talked about it and McElroy stated how it definitely affected his decision to switch from TT to UA.
Re: Recruiting: Alton Voss has eyes on Crimson Tide
How many stars do you guys think these guys will be getting once its all said and done? AND why are we in such a hurry to sign a QB with signing day 8 months away? Just wondering.
Re: Recruiting: Alton Voss has eyes on Crimson Tide
Two resons with concerns to Voss.
He and his coach do not want to be bothered with the recruiting process when they are trying to concentrate on a state title. Also, with Alabama only going to sign one QB, I think that Coach Shula has his list narrowed to just a couple of QBs and has them ranked as who he wants. If his #1 doesn't jump then he will get his #2. This year seems to have several very good QBs so we have our options knowing that we have a very good one any way it goes.

Hmmm - counting our chickens before the egg hatches?

No one is going to have a parade for an Alabama team that comes up short of a championship
Re: Recruiting: Alton Voss has eyes on Crimson Tide
Why does everyone think we will sign only 1 QB prospect this season? I know the numbers crunch deal but couldn't we grayshirt one or more prospects? This year by all accounts is shaping up to be the year of the QB so why not sign a couple if one or more is willing to grayshirt? In the case one is a great athlete as in Earl Alexander, then one could be moved to another position as Earl will most likely be.
If the staff decides to offer Voss early then it may have provisions for grayshirting in the event another more highly sought after prospect wants to come. Probably not but just a thought. Its way to early in my opinion to say one and done when it comes to offering QBs. Let the season pan out first and if we get a quality QB when its all said and done then super!
