I have a concern about Chris Capps. Two weeks in a row he has really gotten beat on the edge. Now Im very aware that offensive tackle is a difficult position to play especially having to pick up outside blitzs and speed LBs off the edges. Im jsut very suprised at his play the last few games. Is he injured maybe or is he just not as talented as we first thought. Im not being disrespectful and its something I saw and was wondering if someone else maybe picked up on this issue.
Anything's better than last year, and it does seem Chris has improved since last season! Until our other offensive linemen "come of age" I don't see that we have any other choice in our personnel! Hopfully, he continues to improve and get even better.
Observations about the performance of players, as long as not couched in inflammatory terms, or over the line into "player bashing," such as "X" sucks, are always welcome. Capps is probably the weakest link in a troubled OL. The consensus of people who should know is that our problems, particularly with run blocking, are probably a combination of talent and technique. IOW, Capps is doing the absolute best he can with the techniques he's been taught. We can't ask for any more and it serves no purpose to denigrate him...

As much as I hate to say it, it doesn't get a lot better when you look at the guard on that side either. Watching the replay/recording yesterday it was sickening to see how little contact we had on the defensive lineman that caused the fumble (JPW.)
What makes this situation even more apparent is seeing the LDE and LDT making tackles in our backfield...from the backside of the play.

I couldn't agree more with these two posts.
This is why I keep harping on the two-man depth chart and the number of players recruited by former head coaches.
I thought Stabler played Ok. Arkansas' defense has been an underperformer for years, but they are experienced.

I could have sworn, but not for certain (have not seen the replay). That Smith was blocking the Arkansas player that caused JPW to fumble and ultimately ran back for a TD.

I think you're mistaken, but then again I'm not 100% sure about that either! I know Andre missed a couple of assignments, including one that directly resulted in a sack, but on the sack where JPW fumbled I'm pretty sure the guy came from the right side. Can anyone tell us for sure?
