It was nice to see our QB get licked like that and not have a game or season ending injury. I was worried how JPW's mentality would be after that hit, then he goes out and is 16-20, 250 yards, 3 TDs, and ZERO INTs......Sweet potato pie and a shut my mouth.

I thought it was borderline, but it wasn't a cheap shot. It was just a clean hard hit. Could he have eased up and not hit JPW as hard, sure he could have but that's not what any defender is taught so you can't really blame him. If JPW had taken another step, then it would have definitely been a late hit.

I watched that hit a dozen times and no matter how I watched it (slow mo or full speed), I could not get it to be in bounds. The hit was a full step onto the sideline. The refs missed a flagrant late hit.

I wonder what went throughs Mitch's mind after seeing the hit? I've seen a lot of football and many times have seen Linebackers pull up on the QB. Lets watch this weekend and see if there is any "pull ups".
That's a late hit if it's in Tuscaloosa. Home team gets the advantage on those kinds of plays.

It was close, but it was good for JPW. He took a big hit for the first time in the SEC. Now he knows what its like. He knows to get down, or out of bounds faster. He took that first big time hit and he should be good from now on.

Exactly......his foot was OUT of BOUNDS! when the hit occured. The only mistake JP made was he slowed up right before the hit but if that had been Brodie he may not have gotten up at all.

OK, I was watching the Urban show and they were showing Tim Tebow running the ball, as he approached the out of Bounds line #16 UKs best linebacker gave him a slight push to force him out. Thats why I brought up this is the first place. That hit was not right. Thats the same lb that put Michael Bush out for the season, I'm done.
If you dont want to get hit, dont play football! If it was illegal thats one thing, but it wasnt. I dont care what position you play. And to tell a linebacker "that is a legal hit but dont to it so hard?" Thats crazy! As a ball carrier if you stay in play get ready to hit or be hit. As quarterback you can run out of bounds a yard earlier or slide. If you watch the play with Tebow he was loading up to hit the linebacker as he went out of bounds. The linebacker pulled before Tebow, but Tebow was wanting some contact.

The hit was 100% legal. Just like a quaterback whos throwing the ball, if the defensive player has committed to the hit before the ball is thrown (I think two steps to be exact) its legal. You cant be expected to slow up because you think someone is going to throw or go out of bounds. If you do that and your wrong he may pull it down or turn up the sideline and go forever. This is football, not soccer!
