Head Coach Steve Spurrier announced the hiring of Shane Beamer as USC's new assistant coach on Wednesday afternoon. The twenty-nine year old Beamer is the son of Virginia Tech Head Coach Frank Beamer, and after recent stints at Tennessee and Mississippi State, he brings a combination of coaching experience, recruiting ability, and enthusiasm to the Gamecock staff.

I may be wrong, and if I am whoever wants to can flame away at the end of next season. I think that MSU is going to be a tough team next year, so tough that it will make them a possible dark horse candidate, just like Arkansas was last year.
Against us that quarterback of theirs looked all SEC, and that running back, I think his name is Dixon, is going to be good.
That being said, they still won't beat us. Bama has too much resentment for Croom and MSU right now. But they will beat Arkansas, Ole Miss, and maybe even the Barn.

"Spurrier again confirmed the plans for the annual Garnet and Black Game, which will conclude spring practice on April 14th. “The spring game is going to be on (April) 14th. Hootie and the Blowfish are all set to perform. We’re going to charge admission, and it’s going to be a fundraiser for the new facility campaigns going on here,” said Spurrier. “Hopefully our fans will realize that. I know a lot of times it’s been free, but we haven’t had Hootie and the Blowfish before...."
Steve has been an innovator everywhere he's worked. Now he's turning the SC spring game into an entertainment blowout and a fundraiser.

I called Arkansas being a potential contender last summer. I just don't see the same qualities in MSU. They lack a running game, outside of the sparks Dixon had, and Mike Henig can not take the beating QBs recieve in the SEC. Two straight years with injuries alludes to this. Thier secondary is not good at all. They do have a superb DL and that will help, but they just lack playmakers on offense, which Arkansas had. MSU's defense will keep them in games, unless they give up chunks up yardage in the air, but their offense can not control the ball and run the clock. Sure, they looked great against Shula's team last season, but a lot of teams did. This all being said, they could have a year much like Kentucky did last season. Win seven games and upset a team like Auburn. They'll be improved but winning the SEC West is a tall order LSU, Auburn, and a Nick Saban led Alabama at the top of the division.

Coach Bryant, after announcing his retirement, was asked if he was dissappointed that an Alabama player had never won the Heisman Trophy while he was the coach. He said, "No!", and added, "At Alabama our players do not win Heisman Trophies, our teams win national championships."

Templeton's departure could be a set-up to letting Croom go. The SEC coaching bar has risen dramatically since Croom's hiring and MSU is losing both the recruiting and in-season battles.
Orgeron may be a nutcase, but he is out-performing Croom. MSU may getting better under Croom, but not at the pace of almost every other school in the conference. Improving slowly against rapidly improving competition ultimately means you're going backwards.
The new AD, didn't hire Croom, so it will be easier to make a HC change.
