JPW showed many signs of the talent & poise we believe he possesses, but he also showed signs of the weaknesses that have kept him from being considered among the SEC's topo qbs. As a JR it's time for JPW to step his game up a notch or 2. This game was a big move in that direction, but there is still a lot of room for improvement. Still some poor decision-making, too many turnovers, and the oft-mentioned loft under some passes. This game will provide excellent game-film for Applewhite & company to evaluate and make adjustments to JPW's game. I look for this game to be a huge steppin-stone for him.
Can't rag too much given game's ending, but without the costly 2nd half turnovers Bama likely not in the situation of needing the late heroics, so JPW gets a grade of a B+ in my book.

Take away the turnovers and this game would of been over after the 21-0 lead. Turnovers kill drives, change momentum and often lose games. We scrapped back hard and beat the odds.

Take away turnovers and we might not have ever led 21 - 0. Our pick of Dick early in the game set up our first points and really had them reeling for a while. Our defense shut them down and our offense rode mighty Mo for 21 points before Arky recovered.
Turnovers helped us early and killed us late. Credit this team for refusing to lose when mighty Mo was clearly on Arky's side late in the 4th qtr...

OUR TURNOVERS NOT THEIR'S. I could careless about their TO's.

If you look hard enough you can find fault in every player and in every play. Bottom line is JPW won with a drive that covered 73 yards on nine plays in 2:05 with Bama out of timeouts. Arkansas was left with just 8 seconds to respond and failed. That's pretty spectacular in my book.
Don't forget to thank the REAL MVP of the game, which is whoever called the pass play on third down for Arkansas. That has to be one of the dumbest things I have seen since the play call against AU in 1997, which we all remember too well. They were running at will on us, we had no timeouts left, and we had to use almost all of the remaining clock to score the winning touchdown. I don't know how it would have come out had they run the ball on that play, but I bet CHN is wishing he would have tried it right about now. The four Arkansas fans in front of me were in absolute stunned disbelief after the play. I politely thanked them as they left and wished them a safe trip home.
I was proud of him. No, he is not Peyton Manning. He has ups and downs, plays inconsistently at times, and makes bad decisions every now and then (but don't we all make bad decisions at times?). When the chips were down last night, he got it done in a big-time way. Very proud of him. Who knows, this could be the game that gives him the confidence to step it up a couple of levels.

What JPW did last night in the last minute drive was a mark of a champion. A sign of a great competitor is when they can over come adversity and he definitely did that. This team is growing and last night was a major step in that "process".

i like many i believe was down on jpw with those two turnovers. that was all the hogs needed to seize the momentum. of course, i was so happy with his drive of the offense the last 2 minutes. i am concerned with his arm strength on deep balls. we have some really excellent receivers, and it takes a jump ball to get the ball, there are many underthrown balls. his zip on the ball did not improve until the last drive. he appears to be laying off the velocity of passes on purpose, to fit the ball in many times. he has to stop that if we are to beat the lsus, floridas, and others. our guys played like warriors the whole game. i think we see what coach saban has been telling us. we have def weaknesses up front, with little depth as yet. we saw that in the 4th quarter. finally deadrick, and fanney had to go in. linebacker we have 4 now in mustain, mcclain, hall, and knight doing a good job, i think waldrop adds a lot enthusiasm and quickness when he is in there. i am very disappointed in the tackling of castille, i did not see a single wrapup tackle by him last night. i thought mitchell missed a lot of plays. corners did not cover well, or aggressively come up for coverage against the run on the corners. the defense played what i thought was soft, in not plugging the gaps. well, we know they are a work in progress. offensive line had a bad night as well, many breakdowns in pass blocking, and run blocking, but, afterall, our team is still getting it together, and i expect they will improve. i know enjoy the results of the game, a win, but, i cant help myself, i am forever, a fan that wants a little more.
Last I heard this was a team game and Alabama won as a team. Isn't it nice to be nitpicking "our" QB after a win rather than melting down after a tough loss. Bama won as a team lead by John Parker Wilson. Coach Saban was happy with his performance, that should be more than enough for us. Is there room for improvement? Sure there is. Will there be improvement? I am sure there will be.
Alabama won at home against a tough ranked opponent. They came from behind to win in the last minute. Wilson had his career best day and all some people want to do is criticize him. Come on now Wilson was 24-45 for 327 yards with 4 TD passes. He did have two interceptions but he did also calmly lead the game winning drive in the last minute. That should more than make up for a couple of bad throws shouldn't it?
Congratulations John Parker and the entire Alabama team on a great win. I look forward to seeing more of the same the rest of the season.
Roll Tide!

Well said. Look around the country and you will see our QB position is a strength on this team. JPW will only get better.

I think a balanced discussion of the game is healthy as long as it doesn't linger over into the unfair criticism of players, coaches, etc. JPW earned his stripes last night by overcoming some adversity. That is a mark of a champion. I believe that game winning drive will continue to build confidence in him and the team to benefit us later in the season against tougher opponents. I'm just concerned about the under and overthrowing of passes. Which I guess ties into the throwing off the back foot. Aside from the last minute drive, many of his completed passes this season have been the receiver just making an outstanding athletic effort. DJ Hall is awesome and made some great plays to make some of those passes "complete".
We all know that these things are being worked on and will continue to be worked on. But as long as they continue to exist during games there is the potential that they will begin to cost us. Especially as we get into the tougher part of our schedule. Even during wins fans see all aspects of the games. It's hard to not see or ignore issues that continue to come up during games just because the game resulted in a win. Because all it takes is a loss for those things that were first "nit picky" to now become an issue. Remember 2005? People kept saying that something is wrong with our OL and they kept getting bashed about being too "nit picky" and "bashing the team" etc. But low and behold after the LSU and Auburn games look at how the mood swung.
I'm so happy we won and am proud of JPW and how he over came the adversity. And I know (from being a member on here for a while now) how easy it is for us fans to cross the line, focus too much on the negatives of a game and begin to "pile on" a player at an unreasonable rate. That's why I understand why mods are quick to step in and temper the "mood" of threads, especially when they are about concerns that fans see from our team. But is it possible to still be proud of the team, JPW and still talk about the things that need to be fixed to carry this team to the next level without it being pretty much labeled as "unjustified"? I've seen tons of praise about this game and JPW. Balanced with some healthy expressions of concerns regarding JPW's continuing struggles.
