I believe that Ears wants to leave, but I would love to have him stay. As a matter of fact, I am on the "Keep Tubby" bandwagon.

Re: Weekend Aftermath: Tuberville needs quick turnaround

With the presense of CNS, a top notch coach/recruiter at Bama, i just wonder how hard it would be for Barn to get a good coach if Tubbs did leave after this season. I know in the last several seasons, barn has been a good program, largely due to Bama all but being put to death by the NCAA. Even though the season is still very young, you can already sense the shift in power back to the west side of the state. Even when barn was the better team, they still played backseat to Bama. IMO, Tubbs is about as good as they are gonna get as long as CNS is residing in T-Town.

Yes; it's true that last year they got the "Thumb"; but the problem may be where they stuck it because they sure appear to have it in an uncomfortable place.

And to add to all that, they need to be worried about New Mexico State this weekend.
I wonder how much the Gators are on the goobers minds this week. Are they really thinking about NM State whom they are supposed to beat by 17? Or are they thinking about turning their season around in Gainsville next week? It does not appear to me that they can afford to take anyone for granted.

Re: Weekend Aftermath: Tuberville needs quick turnaround

I'll be unusually gracious and try to give a non-Crimson colored opinion here...

Tubs may well want out (I probably would too at this point). After 9 years coaching at Auburn, I wonder if he still has the energy/desire to do what it takes to compete with Saban, Richt, and Meyer on the recruiting trail. He usually has a good group of assistants and on-the-field coaching has been generally very solid IMO. But I don't think it's good enough to overcome teams with more innovative and/or driven coaches and better athletes on a consistent basis.

However, Auburn would be beyond stupid to fire Tubs. He's been a very good coach for them (better than Dye) and I'm not sure they can replace him with anybody any better. Yes, he's having a bad season so far, but at this point I think it's way too early for them to panic. Unless he totally tanks the season, I think he'll be safe from getting canned. Look for a LOT of blood-letting on the offensive side of the ball at the end of the season (bye-bye Borges)

I'm not sure if Auburn is capable of making a turnaround. I honestly think that Florida is going to take them to the woodshed at the Swamp. Vandy will not be a pushover and then they have to travel to Arkansas, where the Hogs will be basically rested after 2 tune-up games. That game could get ugly if D-Mac and Co. run like they did on us and then there is the LSU game at Death Valley where they will probably get another woodshed beating. Tubbs may be looking for an exit strategy if he doesn't beat Bama this year.
It will basically be like putting Lee Corso in a fight with Brian Urlacher.

Re: Weekend Aftermath: Tuberville needs quick turnaround

He should've left at the end of last season... he could've demanded a bigger paycheck from wherever he lands.

While I agree they (auburn) would be beyond stupid, even for them, to fire tubby at this time, to say he is a better coach than Dye may be stretching it a bit. Pat was 6 & 3 vs. Bama with 4 wins in a row over a full strength Tide program when Stallings came to Tuscaloosa. He also had won 4 or 5 SEC championships during that time while resurrecting a near dormant football program which was on probation when he took over in 1981.

I'm no big fan of anything related to auburn but have to give credit where credit is due. I personally don't think tubby is worthy of carrying Dye's jockstrap much less being compared to him in any way regarding coaching abi-li-ties..

Back to the subject at hand, for auburn to consider firing tubs is ridiculous, besides I want to see how he and his staff fare against a real coaching staff at the Capstone before he's sent packing!

Re: Weekend Aftermath: Tuberville needs quick turnaround

Besides the poison going on within the program I think another factor is Auburn itself. It's always been rumored that Tubberville has been less than happy living there (who can blame him). I remember hearing stories of his wife saying the place lacked culture. Take it for what its worth but I'd imagine 9 years there would make any place (even College Station) a welcome change.
