On the last drive against Arky I thought I saw Johns at WR on at least one play and Maybe even Coffee. Did anyone else see that are is my eyes fooling me?

Re: Johns at Wide Receiver

I think Johns lined up at WR more than once. I think it was even touched upon in the post-game notes for Arky or the pre-game prediction for UGA.

Re: Johns at Wide Receiver

I didn't read those comments yet. But I was wondering what the advantages were given the number of receivers that we have. I assumed it is because of his playing experience in clutch situations but it also has trick play potential in my thinking.

Re: Johns at Wide Receiver

I remember a RB splitting out wide right once. Maybe it was Johns then. In any event, a LB moved out with him. It's formation they can do out of the same passing down personnel set.

Re: Johns at Wide Receiver

They could also run some kind of double pass with him out there, although they wouldn't have done it at that point in the game.

Re: Johns at Wide Receiver

I just hope we do more of the field-stretching we did early with ARK. We went away from what was working and started trying to run the middle excessively with a light-wait RB. No reason to think it'd work against UGA when it didn't really with ARK.

We've done this at least once in every game with either Grant of Coffee.

Re: Johns at Wide Receiver

i still believe that mr. johns should have been tried at outside linebacker. i look at a rock solid built young man, that could really destroy on the outside with his strength, speed, and aggressiveness. i see a real wasted talent at rb. we have a big time need now, and really no one to fill that need. not only that, he would be a full time player on defense, and i think he would be good in the nfl. he has no career at the next level where he is at now. he is not even contributing much yet at fullback. lets face it grant, coffee are our tailbacks, and coach is not going to use a fullback much in applewhites formations, except screens and blocking.

I think you're right, but it's more in hindsight. Johns was our only experienced RB. We knew Grant had the ability, but not that he would become SEC Freshmen of the Week 3 times in a row. I think the decision to keep Johns at RB was the right decision at the time it was made, kind of like having an insurance policy. Now it seems that we'll never have to make a claim on that policy with the effectiveness of Grant and Coffee. I wish we had moved him because he loves contact and (assuming he learned the system) he can really bring a lick.

Re: Johns at Wide Receiver

Put Johns, Coffee, and Grant in the backfield at the same time!

I am not 100% that we just went away from what was working. The commentators during the game talked about Ark. defense adjustment into the zone instead of man. Also, JPW talked about how Ark was just not covering DJ early in the game. I think Arky just made some good adjustments and forced us to do something different.
