Re: Will Nick Saban be able to "weather" the expectation "storm" at Bama?
This man knew exactly what he was getting into, unlike Franchione, who apparently was overwhelmed with the whole thing. When Kim starts whining about being stopped in the super market, give me a break. Those people weren't ready for the big time (as subsequent events have shown). When things get a little rough, like now, I expect him to dig his heels in deeper and work harder. If there's anything on earth that man hates, it's anything which could be called failure. He's no Franchione, who feared failure above all else...

I dont expect much next year either.Looking at our schedule and having our tough games on the road,we could be in for a long year in 08.09 is when I believe we will see the complete process take hold.Be patient. It will pay off in the long run.Coach Saban shouldnt have to ''weather'' expectations, but he will.
Re: Will Nick Saban be able to "weather" the expectation "storm" at Bama?
Here's the thing. As Jess has alluded to in his game summary, there are a lot of things that need changing. IF Saban makes the changes within his control to make, I believe most reasonable fans within our base will be patient. If the changes that can/should be made are not, then I believe patience will become a rare commodity.
Personally, I expect some major overhauls between the AU game and the bowl game... with possibly some defectors from the team. Understanding who CNS is, I can't expect he will continue to tolerate some things currently happening without making changes. And, the only reason they haven't been made yet is likely due to time constraints. Will see... but that's my gut feeling right now.
Re: Will Nick Saban be able to "weather" the expectation "storm" at Bama?
All I'm saying is he could have given that nice young man a lovely woven hankey for Christmas.
All joking aside, I think that guy went to the mental hospital. We need blocking, but we don't need that much blocking. We need guys who can see the field, see the big picture, and pull if need be.
Any insight into the Genesis project would be welcome, I think we'd all agree. . .

I agree time constraints have been a factor in making major changes. Not only is the first year a learning experience for the players but more so for the coaches.
You could tell in his press conference he was very disappointed,Everything he has been preaching from day one seems to be going in one ear and right out the other on some of the players.
Re: Will Nick Saban be able to "weather" the expectation "storm" at Bama?
I think he will, if by nothing else the terms of the contract that we gave him. We've guaranteed him an 8yr 32 mil contract with no strings--if he leaves early, it will be of his own doing and he will leave a ton of money on the table. Thus, I think he is insulated from any pressure from fans, alumni, administrators, etc....

The real question may be "Can Alabama fans "weather" Nick Saban? I believe Coach Saban will turn the program. I think he also has shown that he will not alter his "process" because fans or media don't agree with it. It's going to be a interesting ride. I can't wait..... I mean that seriously, we can sit back and watch a coach do his job for once, I haven't seen that here in the last 26+ years.

To be honest I think the ULM loss is the type of loss that makes a guy like Saban stick around. Consider this, let's just say Alabama doesn't have a winning season. You think Saban is going to run from that? You think he's going to go on to another job with a ULM loss leaving a bad taste?
I think it is going to bring the faithful back down to earth and it should also motivate Saban. He has a good reputation and I don't imagine a scenario in which he will leave Alabama with a tarnished reputation. I think if Saban were to leave it would be with things going great, not because of adversity (unless adversity counts as the fans being unhappy with a 10 win season).

Saban will be fine but will we with our expectations ???????
CNS can deal with us. The question is: Will the fans be able to weather the realization of how low our program had sunk? I think many of the fans actually believed or wanted to believe ex-CMS when he said, "we are this close". The truth is the only thing we were 'close to' due to the ineptness and lack of commitment of a series of coaching staffs and the lack of discipline was a complete dismantling of our football program. CNS is rescuing our program from falling into an abiss of mediocrity. Most did not understand or chose to ignore what CNS meant when he stated that is would be a "process" to build a championship team. This statement was based his evaluation of personnel on hand including their talents, size and attitude.
I'm sure he had heard all of the rumors and speculation about the previous coaching staff and the players that he was inheriting just as the fans had. The big difference being that CNS had inside, first hand information from Mal Moore, Dr. Witt and others on the inside. But in fairness the players, he gave them all a clean slate. Many took advantage of this opportunity, followed the rules and improved their behavior, attitude and work ethic. Others still believed their own hype and continued down that same path of "I'll do what I want, the way I want, when I want" and he gave them enough rope to hand themselves. Honestly, it was unrealistic for the fans to expect players who had been allowed to do what they wanted to for 3 years and still play without any consequences to give that up and yeild to a strict disciplinarian.
Well, now it is almost a year later and just like St. Nick, CNS knows whose been 'naughty' and whose been 'nice'. And I think that the ones who have been 'naughty' will not like the present that they receive at the end of the season. It is amazing that some players still don't believe that CNS means what he says. But like the old folks used to say, "Aint no sense like bought sense".

Re: Will Nick Saban be able to "weather" the expectation "storm" at Bama?
I think CNS will be fine. Next year he will have between 48-50 of his type players here( ones he recruited). Even if most of them will be underclassmen I look for a lot of them to get a lot of playing time.He should be able to get at least 15-20 of the former players to buy into his system. That should give us a pretty good group to work with. We may have some mistakes to deal with early in the season but by the end of next year we should be a pretty good team.
Re: Will Nick Saban be able to "weather" the expectation "storm" at Bama?
I think CNS will be just fine as long as we as fans shut up and let him coach. He told us at the very beginning that success was not going to come overnight. I think some people should take their "expectations" and shove them where the sun doesn't shine.
