I think CNS will be just fine as long as we as fans shut up and let him coach. He told us at the very beginning that success was not going to come overnight. I think some people should take their "expectations" and shove them where the sun doesn't shine.
I agree wholeheartedly.
I'm as disappointed as anyone about the last few games, really just since the lsu game when things just seemed to take a weird downturn. But I know Coach Saban is doing and will do, the right things to correct the issues on this team. Its hard to change old bad habits overnight and that is a big part of what he is having to deal with right now on top of dealing with depth issues and such. Let the guy do his job, he's good at it.
Re: Will Nick Saban be able to "weather" the expectation "storm" at Bama?
weather the expectation storm? you must think nick is weak or something. it will take alot more than that. ole nick has us right where he wants us for now. relax take a deep breath and enjoy the ride this story will have a good ending.
Re: Will Nick Saban be able to "weather" the expectation "storm" at Bama?
I think that he will be able to weather the expectations, as he has the same expectations as the fans. The only difference b/w CNS and the fans is that he will certainly not expect a NC when there are plainly obvious reasons to not expect one (like this season for example and I think next season). He has even higher expectations, like he mentioned in his presser today, that he expects things to be done the right way, whether it's the football player or the fans.
Alabama fans have to get used to the fact that returning to ANY semblance of the "glory years" will take time. Even when we do win another NC, it doesn't mean that we will for sure win the next 5 NCs after that. Dominance is being in the top 10 every year, winning 90% of your games every year, and contending for a NC (which doesn't always translate to winning the NC) every year.

If you think about it, CNS went into the job at LSU with nowhere near the expectation level he's facing at Bama. Can he survive the constant whining of some of the fans? Can he handle the enormous pressure associated with this program? He's probably already faced more criticism here, than he faced his entire stay at LSU. That may, or may not, be fair, but is a reality.
More importantly, will he want to?
In three years he'll be the most beloved coach since Bryant.
Not because we'll win the national championship every year. But because we will start being a program that contends every single year.
He's not worried about pressure from the fans. I don't even think it's an issue.
Fans could never put near as much pressure on him as he does on himself.
He wants to win because HE wants to win and will accept nothing less from HIMSELF.
We've needed that attitude for quite a while because I truly believe that the TEAM ultimately will come to adapt the personality of THE COACH.
And the thing that I like the most about him.....He KNOWS he's gonna get the job done.
I don't think there's one doubt in his mind.
There's certainly not one in mine.

Oh, I agree. If anything CNS seems to be embarrassed. On the CNS Show, he was almost apologetic to the Tide Nation for the way the team is playing. I have no doubt he will turn the program around.
I will also say I don't think he's faced the kind of pressure anywhere, that he will see here.

Re: Will Nick Saban be able to "weather" the expectation "storm" at Bama?
Nick will do fine. It took 3 years at LSU. But the legacy is amazing, as we all know. It takes a while to recruit and train smart players - especially on defense. When he was at LSU, the post game player interviews had them talking about the defensive audibles that led to interceptions, sacks, etc. LSU was using defenses more sophisticated than some pro teams. [Not with True with Les and Bo Pelini.] Nick also likes error free offense. Remember he won it all with Matt Mauck at QB. Few mistakes, few big plays, break a run now and then but mainly let your defense play field position. Nick is a teacher, a defensive teacher. He spends little time on offense.
I saw a post this morning where a fan was saying he had to go undefeated next year starting with the Auburn game this year. Good things take time. He is NOT St. Nick! But he will put Alabama at the top tier and take the best in state recruits from Auburn. And recruit well Nationally.
Incidently, rumor mill in Louisiana is that Tuberville is stalling on TA&M because he covets the LSU job. Bama [Saban] - LSU[Tuberville] - what a war that would be!
Re: Will Nick Saban be able to "weather" the expectation "storm" at Bama?
Coach Saban will be fine. He's plenty tough.
Besides, where else is the University going to turn?
I have to admit, in today's press conference, when he said that he won't tell players that are doing thing improperly that they are doing okay, or he (Saban) would leave, my heart skipped a beat for a second. I do not want to get on the new coach rollercoaster again, especially when I am absolutely convinced that we cannot do any better than the coach we have now. Scary thought.
He'll be fine.

With the Michigan coach retiring, and IF Miles gets the Michigan job, how soon would the Saban to LSU rumors start? I think he wants to bring this program back. But, as always, Bama fans are above the last ring when it comes to won-lost records. I truly believe it is going to take at least two more years, until he gets rid of the Shula players, gets his TYPE of players on the squad, and builds the kind of team he wants, built on his style of doing things. This year, he is having to utilize what he has. That is not exactly a good thing when the players that are here, are not the type of players for the D and O he wants to run. I still believe two more years. I seriously doubt most will want to wait that long.
