Glad you like it. We have a few UGA fans where I work and one buys the Times Free Press regularly (Their coverage of UGA is second only to their coverage of the viles). I happened upon it by chance only while I was killing time as I don't read it on a daily basis. After reading the story though, I felt it was my duty as a Tide fan to share it with everyone.
Speaking of Coach Stallings , I enjoyed his vist with Finebaum last month . Especially when he told pat cough dye , "That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard ."

What did pat cough, cough, cough dye say?

I used to listen on the computer, but finebaum would tick me off. He's always trying to make a big deal out of nothing when it comes to Bama. He's like Woody Wood Pecker, he's an instigator.

Re: Gene Stallings has seen many ups in Down

I took my son to Fan Appreciation Day up there (I forget what year). After going around to all of the players' tables, we stood in line for 2 hours to get Coach Stallings' autograph. The guard came up and told us we would be the last ones for the day and turned several people away after that. When we finally got there, an assistant was up there to take our camera and get a shot of us with Coach Stallings. He spoke with my son a little. I had him sign an 8 x 10 copy of Coach Bryant lifting him up after he won the Cotton Bowl. He told me what a great day that was for him and we walked with him as he left the building. I've never met a classier gentleman. It was as much a thrill for me as it was my son, who is now 27 and in the Air Force. He's flying to Iraq tomorrow. I'll be praying for his safety every day until he returns home. I have that photograph on my desk here at work.

I hated that Alabama's Board of Trustees allowed Bockrath to stay after he caused Coach Stallings to quit. When Coach Bryant retired, he recommended that Coach Stallings be his replacement. We could have continued our dominance for years if that had happened. I'm glad we have another great coach now...

Great pull , Sam . Thanks , I was due for a fresh dose of Coach Stallings .
Indeed, thanks, Sam.

LCN, get mine by having ANOTHER SEASON on a near-by night stand. Coach Stallings is a great gentleman and we are proud to have him as a Bama spokesman, still. I had a short one-on-one with him on April 28th, one week after the milestone A-Day game. He was making an appearance at an event for developmentally disabled children in Covington, Louisiana. The next morning I heard him speak at First Baptist, Covington.

On that Saturday, I had a small brief case of Bama books from my personal library. One had a post game picture from the 1968 Cotton Bowl - Bama vs A&M. It showed Coach Bryant picking up "Bebes" per the caption. As he signed it Coach Stallings said, "That was the first time he remembered autographing anything "Bebes". What a treasure!

BTW, last Wednesday, I ordered his book, "What It Means To Be Crimson Tide: Gene Stallings and Alabama's Greatest Players. I'd love to go to El Paso and get it autographed.

... with your son, Jazzman. May God bless and keep your son from harm, as he serves our country. My son is serving with the Navy at Guantanamo. Not as dangerous, thus not as stressful to a dad, of course, but still important.

Big A Re: Gene Stallings has seen many ups in Down

Ya know, I have a hard time admitting this, but I was one of the guys who just did not get it when he was coach. At the time, I wanted him to leave. I thought that his old school offense, 3 yards, play tough defense and field position style were holding us back. I may still be right about that, but I was wrong about CGS. Since he has left Bama, we have forgotten all about fundamentals. Blocking and tackling and playing error-free football has not happened since CGS left. I think Bama really misses having him there running the show, or at least we did during the Dubose/Fran/Price/Shula years. None of those guys did things the right way like Stallings did. I kick myself now for having a negative opinion of him then, and now I have a real respect for the man.

By the way, I love the story about John Mark telling CGS that Saban was his favorite football coach. Is that one true?

Thanks Banjeaux! I look forward to the day when my son and I can go to another Bama game together. We're both musicians also...

Dye said the barn had a tougher schedule over a 25 year period . CGS went on to ask if that was how dye spent his spare time - studying old schedules .

Not a musician Jazzman. Selected "banjeaux" to fit my "exile," for which a song had already been written. Then, I put a French twist on the tail end. Kool, huh?

BTW, a good friend is mayor of the Town of Elmore. So, I've been to your neck of the woods.

Re: Gene Stallings has seen many ups in Down

02 Spring game, Southwest tunnel going up under the stadium. The 92 team was gathering just before half to walk out on the field to be honored. My wife and I and new son, had ran down to take cover from the rain. I turned around and there was Coach Stallings. I asked him to hold my 7 or 8 month old boy so I could take their picture. He was more than willing to oblige and was grinning ear to ear. Later that year close to Christmas, he was signing stuff and selling ornaments to benefit something, and my wife went and had the pic blown up and got it autographed for me. What an awesome gift! Very precious to me.

Re: Gene Stallings has seen many ups in Down

Coach Stallings is a great man! I had the pleasure of talking to him on the phone over the summer regarding a charity event. We talked a little bit about Alabama Football but, mostly his passion and work regaring Down syndrome. I had to call him back several days later and his wife answered the phone. I realized just how real and down to earth he was when she told me "he'll have to call you back, he is out mowing about 100 acres and has to get it done before the rain comes."
