Can't say that there is anything wrong with this move.
Quote:
Mississippi State football coach Sylvester Croom, believed to be on the hot seat just a year ago, signed a new four-year contract with the school on Friday.
The contract, which calls for a guaranteed salary of $1.7 million in 2008, has been forwarded to the school's interim president, Dr. Vance Watson, and must be approved by the board of trustees.
Good move by Miss. St. Croom has gotten his team and program to buy into what he's selling and they've made some definite progress. Wesley Carroll is a good qb and will be a sophomore this season with lot's of SEC game experience. Add to that the two bruising running backs they've got and they've got a good foundation to build upon.

I'm sorry but I just can't jump on the Croom's bandwagon. At first I thought that he was a very good man, and loved Alabama as a former player, and I wished that we had hired him. Then all of a sudden, he got where it seems his main goal in life is to not run his own program, but to try and find nit picky things wrong with ours. It keeps being brought up that he was overlooked at Alabama for the job, but let's face it until Alabama called him for an interview, who else had been calling him? If the truth been known, he owes his present job to Alabama. I just think that he has started to believe his own press, and thinks hat he is all that, and I just don't. Please when they come here this year, don't let him do a TV bit before the game where he walks the field & they talk Coach Bryant would have been so proud of him. I don't believe that. He may have been proud of how he has turned his program around and is winning games, but he would certainly not be proud of the things that he has said about Bama. I'm beginning to hate Mississippi State as much as I do Auburn, and it has nothing to do with them beating us(Jackie did that, and I don't hate him)but frannkly I just don't like their coach.
Well deserved, I'm surprised that they ponied up that much of a salary though. Maybe Sly can parlay this into a job with a real chance for success. MSU is still the red-headed stepchild of the SECW in facilities and attractiveness. He better strike while the iron is hot.

Well, they have been to an SEC Championship game, unlike the other Mississippi team.
Good for Coach Croom, he is a good guy. He is coaching for the enemy, but neverthe less, he did play for Coach Bryant. I hope this year's match up with MSU will be a good one, maybe deciding the SEC West.
Croom is not a bad coach. I wish him success.
I want him to build a good program at MSU so when we play them it will be considered a good game again. MSU can whip up on some other SEC teams and then BAMA can drop the anvil on the dogs.
We want to play and BEAT good teams not a bunch of 2nd rate loosers like the Barn plays for their wins.

I agree. Croom is a better coach than I gave him credit for, considering his "sour grapes" attitude. MSU probably couldn't do much better.

You should live over here amongst the doggie faithful. They are like Barn fans--totally invisible when things don't go well, and insufferable when they see some success. 19 years ago when we moved here, I sort of liked MSU & planned on them being my instate school. Then I got to know a number of MSU types; let's just say, my instate allegiance has changed. I cannot imagine how these folks would be if they ever had an awesome team. (and trust me, I am all-too-well-aware of the last two years v. MSU)
Say, did y'all know that CSC was one of Coach Bryant's faves? And that Bama didn't hire him because we're all racists? And...(cue tired soundbites of choice)...

A four year extention means very little in todays world. I feel MSU is only trying to show the recruits the school is behind the coach for their entire college career. But we all know coaches leave or get fired before their contract is over. Croom has become a sour man toward the University of Alabama. With all he has said about Alabama I would have to find another team if he ever became our coach. I wish Coach Croom would stop putting down Alabama to build himself up.
It amazes me that we have had dozens of threads regarding Croom, all of which recount his bitterness and attempts to sabotage the Alabama program, and people STILL talk about him as if he were just another loyal Bryant boy.
