The University of Alabama offense spread the ball around to a number of different players during Saturday’s final fall scrimmage at Bryant-Denny Stadium, with true freshman wide receivers Julio Jones, B.J. Scott and Chris Jackson combining for 13 receptions, 241 yards and one touchdown.
But the bigger story may have been with the defense, with the first unit giving up just one big play (“one too many,” coach Nick Saban said), despite having some new faces in new places.
The one thing that stood out to me was that everyone has seemed to improve overall with a signicant (seemingly) improvement in the freshmen. Thats a big step. I expect it will only get better as the season goes along.
I did notice where Coach Saban mentioned TC's conditioning needed more work. Thats understandable tho. He's going to be great in stopping the run in short yardage situations I expect.

The wife and I went out to eat last night with a couple friend of ours who's husband is a die hard LSU fan. There aren't too many encounters that we don't get on the Saban/Bama/LSU topic. Last night was no different.
He said the one thing Bama can rest assure is that the defense will be better the second year than the first no matter how many "young" players you have. He said Saban's defense in the second year gets much better than the first. He said it happened at LSU and he said the talent at Bama isn't that much of a difference. He said you'll see a lot of "second string" guys from last year get A LOT better in the second year of Saban's system and will look like world beaters.
From the reports coming out of camp he seems to be on track to be exactly right.

Another scrimmage, another big day for the Alabama offense.
Senior quarterback John Parker Wilson threw for 255 yards on 14-of-25 passing with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Freshman wide receiver Julio Jones had five catches for 125 yards and a touchdown and junior wide receiver Mike McCoy had three receptions for 81 yards and a score.
'We made some big plays on offense today,' UA head coach Nick Saban said. 'John Parker was pretty precise with the ball.'

After a week in which the emphasis from Coach Nick Saban seemed to be on upperclassmen, a number of newcomers were highlighted when Saban discussed Alabama’s second and final full scrimmage of the pre-season Saturday.
Names like wide receivers Julio Jones and B.J. Scott, linebackers Donta Hightower and Jerrell Harris, running back Mark Ingram and junior college transfer nose tackle Terrence Cody were among those earning positive comments from Nick Saban following the Alabama football scrimmage at Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday. The two-and-a-half hour workout included third down situations, red zone offense and defense and two-minute drill along with the scrimmage.

In a preseason abuzz with excitement over Alabama's newest signing class, one freshman continues to leap above the others.
Receiver Julio Jones of Foley was the statistical star of Saturday afternoon's scrimmage at Bryant-Denny Stadium, all but cementing a contributing role this season with five catches for a team-best 125 yards and one touchdown.
Jones was one of six players to catch at least three passes — according to statistics released by Alabama — in the Crimson Tide's final full-scale scrimmage of the preseason.

Re: Practice Report 8/16: Second Scrimmage - Defense improves from last scrimmage
Anyone else noticed that we are not getting any stats of the freshmen on defense?
I know we are only getting partial stats but we get stats on Jones, BJ and Ingram but the defense remains a secret.
Re: Practice Report 8/16: Second Scrimmage - Defense improves from last scrimmage
Happy to see Cody is down to the mid-360's. His stamina and ability to stay in on more than just "special situations" is going to be an invaluable asset to our defensive play. So often, those big guys really struggle with the weight issue, but it looks like he's been applying himself and is seeing a lot of benefit. I'd say having CNS mention it specifically, should mean a lot to Cody.
