Re: Espn, is saying Andre Smith and Mt cody in the first round of the NFL draft
I think everybody has pretty much expected Smith to go after this year. If you're a Top 10 pick, you just about have to. Best wishes to him, and thanks for the memories.
Earlier in the year, Cody said he was coming back. But I no longer think that's the case. He's just gotten too much positive press. If he's projected in the first round, even late (the money for a late first round pick is way different than for early), I think he's gone. Can't say that I blame him, either.

I think Cody may go also. It may depend on how much he enjoys the college experience, but if he is a 1st rounder he will probably go. Chapman will step in for Cody and do a good job but we will miss them both. I always feel the game is won at the line of scrimmage. Obviously Saban feels the same way. Unfortunate drop off at each position but we have good young talent in the trenches now that just needs a little time to develop. We'll be OK.

Cody isnt gonna get his weight down in time for the NFL. He would be smart to stay one more year. As for Andre, hes as good as gone.
Have you seen guys like Gilbert Brown, Shaun Rogers, Dan Wilkerson, Grady Jackson, etc.? Their weight has definitely not hurt their NFL careers and has actually helped them enjoy long and profitable careers. A NG in a 3-4 almost has to be 350 to survive the season in the NFL. They don't want him to lose weight, they want him because of what he is doing at Bama: holding the line of scrimmage, occupying blockers, and allowing athletic LBs to make the plays. I will be suprised if he goes through Spring Training at Alabama.
Re: Espn, is saying Andre Smith and Mt cody in the first round of the NFL draft
If TC goes after this year, it will be a mistake. He hasn't played organized football long enough.. sure, he is a great athlete, especially for his size, but in the league, everyones a great athlete. but, on the other hand, its hard to imagine he will get more pub than this year. whatever he chooses, thanks.
as for Big Andre, it will be a mistake for him to stay. to risk injury and lose millions would be a disservice to his family. I would love to have them both back, but we have to be realistic.
Re: Espn, is saying Andre Smith and Mt cody in the first round of the NFL draft
Well we will have Tyler Love and DJ Fluker at OT. Josh Chapman and possibly Kerry Murphey at DT. It would really help if Murphey could get his grades up.

Re: Espn, is saying Andre Smith and Mt cody in the first round of the NFL draft
First of all, I don't think Cody is ready. He's still overweight even for a NG in the NFL. He's conservatively listed at 365 right now, and he reported at close to 400 this summer. I would think NFL scouts would like to see him at 340-350 lbs. He also hasn't played more than about 50% of our defensive snaps which calls into question his endurance and dependability. Not to mention this is his first year of non-JUCO football. I think come draft time he'll be a mid-second rounder. Which means he really needs to come back.
I believe Andre is gone. If he's a top 10 pick, it's just hard to turn down that much money. Although, many players now days like Matt Lienhart and Glen Dorsey do turn down top 10 draft money to come back for their senior year. Why? There are now multi-million dollar injury insurance policies than can be purchased for 2 cents on the dollar. If Andre did want to come back, help his team to a championship, graduate and experience college life for another year...he could take out a 25 million dollar injury policy and not even worry about injuries. So, don't forget that is a realistic option these days if elite athletes truly want to get their degree and play one more year without risking their millions. That's probably what I would do if it were me.
