More particularly, can the return of a University of Alabama football team to the venue that was essentially its holiday home-away-from-home for the better part of a glorious two-decade run ever be considered “a disappointment?”
Certainly, the circumstances of the last 72 hours, which knocked Alabama out of Miami and the BCS title game and into New Orleans, were disappointing. Had Alabama played better in Atlanta, it might very well have beaten Florida. Everyone associated with the Crimson Tide — coaches, players, fans — could pick out three or four plays that they would like to change.

I agree that if the results of three or four plays had been a little different, it could have changed everything. And I posted that fact on another thread. But it's over; now on to the Sugar Bowl.
I don't feel slighted at all, as a Bama fan, to be playing Utah. I've read a lot about them recently, and they seem to have a very strong and knowledgeable fan base, and they're very excited about playing a storied program like Bama. They actually think they can hang with us.
The Alabama football team began preparations for the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Thursday afternoon with a two-hour practice inside the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility.
The Crimson Tide took the practice field for the first time since the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 6, working in shells. UA focused on fundamentals and conditioning in the first of seven bowl practices before breaking for Christmas.

When former University of Alabama defensive back Eric Gray thinks back to last season's Independence Bowl, among the things that pop into his mind are the game itself, celebrating the 30-24 victory against Colorado, and the dancing coach.
Yes, Nick Saban getting down is certainly a lasting memory.
'We were all like, ‘Is that Coach Saban doing that?'' Gray said with a laugh Wednesday. 'Highlight of his career.' For those who don't remember, Gray was referring to last year's team Christmas party in Shreveport, La., when Saban and his wife Terry jumped on the dance floor and quickly found themselves on YouTube.

Alabama went back to practice Thursday, and Crimson Tide Coach Nick Saban was pleased to be back on the field. But it isn’t because he or his coaches and players have gotten bored. The coaches have been recruiting and the players have been in final examinations. Grades on both to follow.
Meanwhile, Alabama has some football work to do. The Crimson Tide was back on the practice field Thursday, the beginning of preparation for a Sugar Bowl meeting against Utah on January 2.

Alabama held a two-a-day Friday, with the first practice inside the Hank Crisp Facility. During the brief time period reporters were allowed to observe, there appeared to be no changes in terms of injuries. True freshman Tyler Love (stress fracture) practiced in a black jersey (no contact), while junior running back Roy Upchurch (neck injury) and senior wide receiver Will Oakley (collarbone/shoulder) worked out on the side. With Upchurch and true freshman offensive lineman Barrett Jones (shoulder) out for the Sugar Bowl following surgery, freshman Jeramie Griffin was working as the third running back and true freshman John Michael Boswell was the second-string left tackle.
Coffee wasn’t the only one to head home to Florida and receive bit of a hero’s welcome. Junior Terrence Cody was wearing his basketball jersey from Riverdale High School in Fort Myers when he met with reporters this week. The school gave it to him because it had to be specially ordered. “First they ask who I am, because they’re not sure,” Cody said. “’Yeah man, I watch you on TV a lot.’ I got that all the time.”

The Alabama football team worked out for two hours Saturday afternoon in full pads stressing fundamentals at the Thomas-Drew Practice Facility.
It was the Crimson Tide's fourth practice since beginning bowl workouts on Thursday. UA will hold three more practices before breaking for Christmas and arriving in New Orleans on December 27. The Tide will begin to turn their attention to Utah during Sunday's practice.

It could be said that phase two of Alabama’s one-game season begins Sunday. Crimson Tide Coach Nick Saban has called a bowl game “a one-game season,” a compressed preparation period similar to an opening game following fall camp.
Alabama has completed four practices in three days, practices in which there was first team going against first team in full gear work that stressed fundamentals.
Beginning Sunday, Alabama Coach Nick Saban said, the Tide will have three days in which Bama will be exposed to schemes that could be new when Alabama meets Utah in the Sugar Bowl on January 2.
