Big A 2009 Alabama Football Schedule: The Crimson Tide will open the season against VT

RollTide.com: 2009 Alabama Football Schedule Released
Quote:
The University of Alabama finalized and released its 2009 football schedule on Friday and will open the season on September 5 against Virginia Tech in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The Crimson Tide did the same in 2008, defeating Clemson in the first-ever Chick-fil-A College Kickoff.

"It was a great atmosphere in the Georgia Dome to play the (Clemson) game," said Alabama head coach Nick Saban on Friday in reference to the Virginia Tech announcement. "It is great exposure for our football players and our football team. I believe that playing a non-conference opponent that has the national reputation, and will probably be a top 10 team next year like Virginia Tech, is certainly a challenge for our players and something for us to look forward to in the offseason. This will be the third year in a row that we have done a non-conference game at a neutral site to improve our schedule."

I love the fact that we are playing Va. Tech to open the season. And I agree with what Coach Saban stated, we need to improve our schedule. I really don't understand us playing Fla. Internationational, North Texas and Tenn.-Chatt. That is a terrible out of conference schedule. I just don't see where it improves the team to play teams like this.

So Va Tech is the balancing act for OOC.

I like these new toughies from OOC. We can't play every tough OOC opponent, the guys need a break to stay with the rest of the country we have it rough enough as is.

it does provide for more affordable tickets to see bama for those not in Tide Pride. lol

Well....................playin' the reigning ACC champ in your opener would certainly qualify as a schedule improvement.
  • Neutral field
  • Nationally televised
  • Bowl game atmosphere
  • All of America tuning in checking out the Tide
  • SEC opponents sphincters making audible whilst slammin' shut

I would like to see us treat VT like da' barn.
