Recruiting: Tight ends, offensive linemen make the difference in Tide offense

Share

Last week, we profiled some of the quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers that Alabama is targeting in recruiting in 2008-2009. But what really makes Alabama’s clock tick are the offensive linemen and tight ends, around which Alabama’s power offense of 2008 was designed.

Who in your opinion replaces Antoine Caldwell? His position concerns me just as much as big Andre.

I know it's all about what Coach wants, but I do hope Fluker goes to offense! I'm sure he can be a good defensive player, but I think he could be of All-American caliber at offensive tackle! That being said, it does seem Coach Saban wants him on the defensive line! If so, he certainly knows better than anyone! It seems the offensive line is shaping up nicely and I am looking foward to the next few years!

Pick one out of the following: B.Jones, Vlachos, Motley, Cardwell, McCullough, Ross, Boswell.

I think right guard will be the determining factor. If Carpenter goes to guard (whether it's due to Smith coming back or Fluker being a stud), then Boswell might get the job if he learns the part. Otherwise, I think Jones and McCullough have the inside tracks but I'm not giving up on Vlachos just yet. I think he's being undersold.

When Cody announced he'd return, that probably cemented Fluker to offense. If Cody had left for the NFL, I think it would be up in the air.

Here is my early guess at our 2009 OL:

LT: DJ Fluker
LG: Mike Johnson
C: Barrett Jones
RG: James Carpenter
RT: Drew Davis
