Quick bowl takes from ‘The Upper Deck’

Share

Didn’t see an article on this site breaking down the bowl matchups like we do each week with games involving SEC teams? That’s because we didn’t write one.

Bowl week is a bowl of mixed nuts every year. When teams have this much time off, and this much time for distraction – see Andre Smith, Alabama – it gets hard to know who’s going to show up and who isn’t.

Here’s a quick take of what’s to come starting later today (Wednesday, Dec. 31) and going through the end of the bowl season.

Most Alabama fans will be pulling for Oklahoma in this game
Really? I'm not aware of any serious dislike for Florida among the Bama fan base. Sure, we make fun of Meyer, but I thought most people had respect for Florida and the fact that if we play them a lot it means we're winning a lot. I understand rooting against Auburn and Tennessee in bowl games (not an issue this year ), but I would think most Bama fans would root for the SEC team otherwise.

I would agree that I would think that most fans of all SEC teams would pull for the SEC to win the National Champioinship over the Big 12. Regaardless of personal feelings, it helps Bama when other SEC teams beat out of conference teams.

Re: Quick bowl takes from ‘The Upper Deck’

I have always rooted for SEC teams in bowl games, exceptions being Auby and UT. However,I don't think I can do that this time. Before the Bama-Florida game we were force-fed Tebow by the media in such preponderance that I would want to puke at the mention of his name, see the picture of him, all grimy, bloody and determined looking(you can still see it on ESPN if you happen to be one of the two people on the planet who missed it),or hear about his speech to the team after losing to Ole Miss(this also is still much discussed on ESPN).I'm sick of it.Also,I'm afraid that if UF wins another NC,this might adversely affect Bama's recruiting when both are after the same player.Maybe I'm wrong but this is how I feel.

I know Meyer came from Utah, but tonight I became a Sooner.

Re: Quick bowl takes from ‘The Upper Deck’

it doesn't really matter whether or not it's about pulling for the SEC. Florida is simply going to need divine intervention to stave off an embarrassing loss to Oklahoma. Florida has not faced an offense anywhere close to what Oklahoma will bring, and Florida's defense has beefed up it's stats against offenses that were not particularly stellar. Oklahoma wins going away, 48-28.

No way, I think Ole Miss proved today that with the right game plan, anyone can destroy Texas Tech like OU did. Florida is impossible to stop with a college defense.
