The end doesn't justify the means. I'm surprised CKW and CMB would willingly compromise their integrity by not living up to their prior agreements. Doing so confirms they are not deserving of the crown.
Also, the only entity that "hosed" Texas was Texas itself. What's happened with "personal" accountability? All Texas had to do was win, and by not doing so, it deservedly lost full control of its fate.
And finally, any school that wants a playoff can join the FCS -- freedom of choice is a wonderful thing. And for those fans whose teams don't join the FCS, well those fans have the same choice -- root for an FCS team if a playoff is that crucial to you. There's just no need for yet another college playoff system -- college football is overflowing with them now.
Regarding the assertion that a playoff is needed for the "true champion to be determined on the field": the last time I looked, the #1 and #2 teams are playing tonight on a field in Miami. Seems like the winner of a contest between the #1 and #2 teams will be the legitimate "on the field" champion. I'm not sure why we need to complicate the process.

These are not the #1 and #2 teams, they are the current #1 and #2 teams in a game of musical subjective rankings...
I have a solution.Go to any large city, get 5 homeless drunks. I guarantee they will come up with something better than what we have NOW. The answer is so simple, have a playoff and make all the current bowls partof the playoff.

Are these REALLY the #1 and #2 teams? That can only be determined by a playoff.
Regarding NY's question, it is quite possible that I misinterpreted the first sentence of the original post, particularly the "are required by the AFCA as part of an agreement" part.
The bottom line is there is no way to crown a TRUE Champion without playing it out on the field. I am not talking about two teams that pollsters say should play but two team that won their way to the game.
Is every school and fan happy with the selection of OU and FL as the #1 and #2 teams in our 2-team playoff? No.
Whether it's a 2-team, 4-team, 8-team or 16-team playoff, will every school and fan be happy with the teams selected? I don't think so. Referenece the unhappiness over the teams selected in college football's other playoff systems.
You see somewhere that they agreed to vote for the winner of this game? Them, specifically?
This goes to show you that coaches should not vote at all. They are bias. Lets just figure out some kind of PLAYOFF and we can quit talking about this crap. It is always the same argument.
But how are you going to determine WHO is in a playoff. If there are ANY at-large teams, it will be just as subjective as the current setup.
16 teams. Conference champs and a few at larges. Get rid of the bowls. Let them decide it on the field. It may not be perfect but it is better than a popularity poll.
