I've heard he's essentially broke now. That was probably a big day for him...

Roy Adams I forget where his money came from, didn't he have a bunch of warehouses and apartments or something like that? Anyone remember or know?

That sounds sort of familiar. I think he had a restaurant at one time...

The scoop on Roy Adams.
Grew up in Batesville, Miss. parents were tenement farmers.
Family moved to Memphis where his father (alcoholic) became a railroad switchman.
Roy became a senate page for Tenn. Senator Estes Kefauver.
Roy says he had a chance to go to Yale but went to Tennessee instead showing how dumb he really was.
Went to UT from 1956-1963 with a stint in the army wedged in.
After college he was a store manager for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for 16 years. He invested in real estate on the side then opened up a chain of 10 family restaurants which he sold in 1988.
Roy next acquired several hundred apartment units.
Roy has never been married to a woman.
This information is at least ten years old so he might be broke for all I know.

What we've been trying to get across to you is that, Adams sycophants were so numerous at one time, he seemed to be the absolute, obnoxious voice of the UT fan base. I wish all you guys who didn't respect him at the time had been much more proactive in disavowing him back then. If you had, I think there would be a much different attitude from Bama fans towards UT fans at the present time. There are many Republicans who don't wish Rush Limbaugh to be the "Voice of the Republican Party." There are a sizable minority who wish exactly that. The ones who don't wish it aren't opening their mouths, just like the anti-Adams people didn't when he was spewing his rabid anti-Bama rhetoric. This is not a political post - just the best comparison I could think of. I will delete posts which try to take this in an unintended political direction... | | | | | The strange thing is that Roy Adams still has his UT followers and believers that hang on his every word to this day. Anyone that has read any of his anti-Alabama postings on the internet or heard any 'Tennstudd' radio interviews, especially the most recent one on Finebaum (4/28) should have nothing but contempt for him. In that interview he compared CNS to Hitler while chuckling and joking about his one time friend Logan Young's horrendous death which was initially reported as "mystery homicide.” This guy typifies ignorant behavior and the bad side of extreme fanhood in the SEC. I personally could care less about what he has to say about Bama or Tennessee for that matter. The Paul Finebaum Radio Network

Just from a on-the-field standpoint the QB position looks pretty questionable to me, as far as production and explosiveness is concerned. UT will be handing the ball off a good bit next year, trying to establish themselves physically.
That's the foundation of a pro-set offense, right? A solid running game has to be there but won't they still throw it around a bit?

This has already been largely addressed, but I was going to add that, best I can recall, Adams made his money in commercial real estate. It seems like I can remember going to Alabama v. Tennessee games in the early 1990's in Knoxville and seeing ads for his company posted all over the area.
Anyway, Adams is a nut, no doubt about it. And obviously I do not know his financial situation specifically, but I'd be willing to bet all of that money is just about now gone. From what I can tell, all he does any more is sit around and rant on the Internet, and I don't even think he goes to the games any more. Best I can tell, he just sits around in his living room watching them with a few of his "dear friends." That doesn't sound like the lifestyle a flamboyant character like himself would choose to lead if he were still rolling in the money.
It's pretty scary stuff, though, in many ways. At one time, obviously the guy had a ton of knowledge about our ongoing situation with the NCAA, and frankly he knew a lot more than most 'Bama people knew. He was usually several days ahead of the breaking news, and for a long period of time you could literally take what he said about the NCAA situation at face value. He had a legitimate source somewhere, whether it be directly in the NCAA itself or someone at UT who had a legitimate source in the NCAA. Either way, again, he had a legitimate source somewhere. There's no way anyone could guess correctly that many times. Most of the times he would not only nail it, but nail it all the way down to even the minor details.
Thankfully, though, it seems that the UT fan base as a whole has really started to distance themselves from him. There was a time in the late 1990's where he could legitimately be considered the voice of that fan base. UT had never had anywhere near the success that they enjoyed from 1994-1998, and they had flat-out become arrogant as hell, and that jived perfectly with Adams. Of course, though, things have changed a lot since then. 2002-2008 have really humbled the Vol fans who discovered big mouths in the mid-to-late 1990's. Running the gauntlet from mediocrity to outright losers has that tendency...

I'd say that he gets favorable to unfavorable replies on about a 20-1 ratio. There are a lot of UT/Roy Adams fans still out there. The only comparison I could think of would be if we elected Ramp Lady to *speak* for us...
Edit: BTW, I expect more on the libel aspect of his recent misbehavior in the near future...

Schledwitz a Memphis attorney (convicted of 3 counts of mail fraud) who also was a real estate developer (Southland Development) and later became a University of Tennessee Trustee. Karl was a key player in our ordeal with the NCAA. Karl represented Roy when the NCAA started asking questions there is the connection.
