I beg to differ. You could not go just any where in Alabama and get the same results. Now if I were to have asked the kind people in Hilton Head if they knew of say Jack Nickolson or chico Fernandez or some of the other golf greats they undoubtedly would have answered with an affirmative reply.

- based, of course, on a highly scientific poll of 12 people walking around a well known tourist mecca, and asked the simple question of whether or not they know Steve Spurrier.
These people weren't walking around in a tourist mecca, they were employees in different stores and I just picked them at random. In 3 weeks I will go to Florida and I bet at least 50% of the people I ask if they know of a guy named urban meyer will reply with an affirmative. wanna bet? I'll put up my tickets to Bama-Ole Sis against your tickets to any team that plays Bama in 09.
Not even close to a fair bet. Urban Meyer has won 2 out of the last three national titles while Spurrier's best season at USC was his first one. Dude hasn't broken 7 wins. Who is in the news more? If believing that people in SC don't follow football seriously makes you feel better, go right ahead. Don't know why you would ask the question though.

Re: Do South Carolinians take their football serious?
I've lived in the Upstate of SC since 1995 and I would say that most of the people quizzed would know who Steve Spurrier is. Fpotball is a big deal in this state, just nothing like in Bama. Of course most of the citizens here haven't been to Bama, so they have no clue exactly how passionate.
One of my buddies who is diehard Clemson and his grown son came down for an Iron Bowl game a few years back, the year after attending an Ohio State game at the Shoe. Afterwards they had no hesitation saying that it was nothing like they expected or had ever seen before. USC(e) and Clemson have a nice rivalry and fans, but they are nothing like Alabama fans.
Looking forward to moving down to Vestavia Hills next week and getting to experience it first hand year round for the next 3 years. Sure will make traveling to games every weekend easier too.

WHERE in Florida? If you go to Miami Beach or the Keys, I bet you get the same results as in Hilton Head. Gainesville, Tallahassee will give different results.

Maybe you should have titled your original post "I declare the people of S Carolina do not care about football". The original thread was misleading because your question led us all to believe you wanted input and discussion. We didn't realize you had decided this important fact all on your own and it wasn't open to debate. What if someone on a USC board started a thread declaring all people in Alabama are ignorant and have no teeth because they stopped in a truck stop in Wetumpka and ran into a bus load of students from API on their way to a calf breeding contest. Would that be a good scientific result? You're wanting to net game tickets? Is this really that serious to you? Relax, its our nations independence day. Posted via Mobile Device

Calm down killer, I asked the kind folks in Hilton Head the question for a joke and mostly to amuse my wife. I really did not have a clue that so many people there did not know who Steve Spurrier was. I couldn't imagine someone from Alabama not knowing who Coach saban is. The bet with the Ole Miss tickets was a joke too because I don't believe I will get tickets, when I purchased them I did not know that there was a chance my money would be refunded or I never would have purchased them. If you go back over my posts you should notice the smiley face doing the wink thing. As a rule I like South Carolina football and the gamecocks and Clemson tigers. I have a lot of family in S.C. and all of them are Clemson fans and alumni.
Re: Do South Carolinians take their football serious?
Define "serious".
If we are using 'Bama standards then the answer is a definite "NO"
But If you are asking about attendance and support I would give an absolute YES. I cannot think of another fanbase that really deserves more success on the field.
The Gamecock fans would sellout Williams Brice stadium for a game with anyone regardless of W-L record, and as someone else mentioned...Those guys KNOW how to tailgate and alot of them know alot about football.
Lord knows, they are alot better than Clemson or UGA fans.

My entire post was to set up that API calf breeding contest sentence and it just flew right over everyones head. That was set up to provide countless jokes. Should have used in on a day the board got more traffic. Oh well. Have a great evening. Posted via Mobile Device

You're thinking of Jack Mickelson, or maybe Arnold Woods.

Yes, Auburn fans on their way to a calf breeding contest. The question which remains is whether they are participants or spectators. Posted via Mobile Device
