Question: Any interest in a Tidefans sticky thread devoted to the depth chart?

First, I want to thank the moderators for all their hard work. Tidefans.com has the best collection of UA Athletics information on the web. I am sure everyone feels the same way I do, so visit the sponsor sites early and often.

Second, I appreciate the innovations and improvements that you continually make to the website.

Having said all this and given the unequaled wisdom of our moderators (complete suck-up intended), I would love to see a new Tidefans sticky thread devoted to the depth chart. I have found that most of the information on the web these days focuses on recruits. The new sticky would balance the information about recruits versus the information about UA players found on this website. IMHO, the guys we have on campus putting in the hard work deserve more respect than some five star recruit that has us listed as medium interest.


Here are some thoughts and ideas:

The recruiting board has organized information about recruits for 2011, so I would love to have similar organized information about current players on the roster, for example: links to news articles about a player, current measurables, etc. Yes, the search function works great. Still, an organized roster listing and depth chart would provide a great reference for fans to access information about current players.

Faced with closed practices and restrictions on interviews, we often get little information on underclassmen. Those that get a glimpse of practices could comment on players (i.e. How are players progressing? What position are they working at? Is a player still eligible for a redshirt?).

Other information that could be included: scholarships available, walk-ons, etc.


Again, thanks for the hard work you mods put into this website. It will be good to know what everyone thinks about this potential improvement?

I think we normally have them during fall camp and of course prior to each game...color coded and everything.

I do remember posts with color coded depth charts, but what I would like to see is a linkable thread like we have for recruiting. My point being that, we should show more love for our current players. Keep the sticky throughout the year to compile information on our current players and give them the respect they deserve.

You've been around for a while, so you know that a depth chart (or at least the Tidefans version of a depth chart since CNS doesn't like depth charts) will be forthcoming in August.

That being said, I'm sure if you have extra ideas for how a more in depth database could be compiled for easy access year-round, you could put one together, submit it to BamaNation, and see how it's received.

But be careful. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

No doubt, CNS is tight lipped about the depth chart. I certainly would not want any information exposed that is not already out there.

I think that a player database would be a great references for discussions on this message board. We could start off with a roster list that is kept throughout the year similar to the recruiting sticky thread: 2011 Alabama Commitments and Prospects List (Updated 6/29). Then, during the year have depth chart stickies for discussion for (1) Spring, (2) Fall camp, and (3) season.
